I do mashed potatoes with olive oil and roasted garlic. Delish!

But I still love my butter, too.

We dip bread in olive oil and some kind of spices the wife puts in it.
We do that too oldr...

Typically olive oil with some garlic, oregano and basil...(I use the same kind of mixture when making garlic bread)

Basically I find that olive oil works as a very good substitute for butter with anything that isn't supposed to be sweet...

On the other hand, olive oil on pancakes, waffles, French toast, blue berry muffins etc., would be pretty gross...Image

Boar's Head
Crazy Richard's peanut butter
A1
Cheetos

I learned to embrace generics in all my years as a student, and when I finally had a little money I realized most of them were just as good and it wasn't worth spending the extra $

Around here we can buy Hutterite butter, which is freshly churned and very yummy. I was late in life embracing butter - now I can't believe anybody still eats margarine - yuck!

Regular (puffed) Cheetos are my addiction. They're disgusting and have negative nutritional value, but I can't help loving them every now and then!

Back in the 1970s when I first left home I learned that margarine was not digested. After that I just quit buying it on the theory that if it wasn't food I didn't want to eat it; and why pay for it?

Well I'm with y'all on that - butter over margarine any day of the week. Butter is especially nicety between cream cheese and the bagel / between peanut butter and the bread / Between the peanuts and the cage,
Between the darkness and the stage,
Between the hour and the age,
Once again, once again,
Love calls you by your name.

Sorry... got carried away there...

Of course, sugar is not all that great either; it's more like choose your poison.

This reminds me of one of my favorite childhood memories - my father was making me a peanut butter sandwich, and I told him he was doing it wrong because he put butter on the bread before the peanut butter. My mom was usually the sandwich maker, so I was sure HER way was the right way.

That was a VERY tasty sandwich, thanks to the addition of butter. I don't follow his example most of the time as an adult, however, because it's too many extra calories.

Butter is pretty close to divine, however. :ok
