He is one of the greatest living musicians and a legend to many - and we're not talking about Kanye West.
Yet Paul McCartney's recent collaboration with the rapper for the newly released single Only One at first appears to have left some hip hop fans scratching their heads.
'Who is Paul Mcartney?, one wrote on Twitter about the Beatles rocker while another posted: 'This Paul McCartney guy gonna be huge.'
@DuesNice remarked: 'Kanye has a great ear for talent. This Paul McCartney guy gonna be huge.'
@percyBlacksom posted: 'Who is Paul McCartney? He boutta blow up thanks to Kanyer!!!'
@CurvedDaily added: 'This is why i love Kanye for shining light on unknown artists.'
And OVOJosh wrote: 'I don't know who Paul McCartney is, but Kanye is going to give this man a career w/ this new song!!'

Paul who?

Re: Paul who?
That couldn't possibly be orchestrated, could it?
Can't believe they don't know how to Google.
But yeah, some kids today - don't know who Paul McCartney is.
That's how old we are.

Re: Paul who?
Years ago (in the 80s) I had mentioned the Beatles to my nephew, he was about 12 at the time and said "Oh yeah, the band Paul McCartney was with before Wings". These responses don't surprise me, but they'll probably take Paul down a peg.

Re: Paul who?
I know who Paul McCartney is. He's that old dude hooked up with the Nirvana leftovers a couple years back, begging everyone to cut him some slack:
Seems to me it's Dave Grohl who gave this guy a leg up in the music world, not Kanye.
Also too, he's got some sappy Christmas song I couldn't get away from fast enough all last month.
BTW, I highly doubt the tweets at issue were twatted out of genuine ignorance; doesn't anyone recognize a snarky joke?

I think you credit hip-hop fans with f-a-a-a-a-r too much intelligence there Sue!

Re: Paul who?
I disagree; as I said in my post (I guess I should have followed it with a
), I think this was probably orchestrated by Kanye fans.
But just the same, lots of young folks today don't know the Beatles or Paul, I'm sure.

Re: Paul who?
Not even the same Twitter account, right?
The top one is clever. The reply is clever, too!
It's a pretty funny joke, in all honesty. And I think it's very insulting to assume that nobody in the hip hop community is musically intelligent enough to know who Paul McCartney is, who the Beatles are, and make this joke.
At the same time exists the reality that many young kids who follow hip hop may have no clue who Paul McCartney is.
Can't we all agree that those two realities coexist?

Re: Paul who?
Yes clearly that was your intention . . .
but now Sue and I have pointed out something else, it seems you are asserting that hip hop folks aren't sophisticated enough to make a joke while actually knowing who Paul is.
Wasn't that the point of your post quoting Twitter accounts celebrating 2015 as both America's and the earth's 'birthdays'?

Re: Paul who?
We used to make "who are the Beatles?" jokes all the time as young(ish) punk rockers in the late 70s. I don't think much has changed in terms of music fan humor.
ETA:
"Why are old white people replying to this angrily" is pretty hilarious.
