Terrorist Attack In Paris
Re: Terrorist Attack In Paris
Meade--thank you very much for the explanation, and I apologize profusely if I somehow offended you by my interpretation of the plain meaning of your words.
I'll look at it and respond if I get the chance.

Re: Terrorist Attack In Paris
Why is isolationism liberal--or conservative for that manner? I'd bet many libertarians would be isolationist as wellWe sit here in the USA amidst splendid liberal isolationism
You sound like the Daily Mirror; where are these "no go " zones? Sure, some areas have mobilized to crack down on pornography and drunkeness, which I think is a concern; but I haven't seen any evidence of "no go" zones.Sharia no-go areas in the heart of British and continental cities
government mollycoddling and welfare feeding of enemy non-combatants because that's what they are.
This is my biggest concern; the term "enemy combatants" has been used as an excuse to deny basic civil rights to persons who have done nothing, as well as those involved in the criminal justice system. These are thugs and should be treated as any other thug--moslem, christian, jew, or atheist, we don't need to invent a rationale to strip just some thugs of their basic rights because we don't like their religion or politics. Someone commits a heinous act; by all means pursue and prosecute them; but do it fairly within our justice system; that's something we owe to ourselves.
that sounds an awful lot like isolationismStop 'em coming in. Throw 'em out. If they like Islamic rule, let them go live in it. Profiling is a good word.
Re: Terrorist Attack In Paris
RR, i suggest you research how women are treated in some muslim parts of paris. see if you think a pretty girl in a summer dress is safe on those streets.
its like Egypt out there.....
women are fair game and are property to be acquired

Perhaps Wes, perhaps not; but I've seen no real evidence of this in the US or UK or Europe, only rhetoric, frequently mixed with racism.

Meade is right I'm afraid. The wishy washy hand wringing by the left in the UK is palpable at this time.

Given what they had to work with, I have to say I'm impressed that they were able to do this so quickly:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nati ... tml#page=1Police identify suspects in Paris shooting that killed 12
rench police officials say they have identified three men as suspects in a deadly attack against newspaper offices that killed 12 people and shook the nation.
Two officials named the suspects as Frenchmen Said Kouachi and Cherif Kouachi, in their early 30s, as well as 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad, whose nationality wasn't immediately clear.
One of the officials said they were linked to a Yemeni terrorist network.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to publicly discuss the sensitive and ongoing investigation.
Cherif Kouachi was convicted in 2008 of terrorism charges for helping funnel fighters to Iraq's insurgency and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
No arrests have been confirmed in the hunt for the attackers. It was the deadliest attack in France in half a century.

Re: Terrorist Attack In Paris
I heard that as well and I'm impressed.
Re: Terrorist Attack In Paris
i m sick of hearing about the villians.
i just heard a quote from deceased editor in chief, "i d rather die standing up, than to live on my knees"
heroes all, those brave souls. a more heroic bunch of frogs, er Frenchmen never lived.
(from what i ve heard of them, they would ve laughed at my joke, and died for my right to tell it)
(also, the use of the masculine was a joke too, which i m think they would ve laughed at as well)

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/catholicne ... newspaper/French imams: Muslims must condemn ‘barbaric’ attack on newspaper
Vatican City, Jan 7, 2015 / 02:29 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Two French imams visiting the Vatican have called on Muslims to respond to the deadly attack on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo by rising up to express their disgust at the criminals who have “hijacked” their religion.
“Muslims are shocked and tired… the silent majority of them feel as if they are taken hostage,” Tareq Oubrou, director of the Mosque of Bordeaux, said Jan. 7.
Muslims need to demonstrate in public squares to “express their disgust” at the attack, he said, adding that the criminal action strikes “Islam and French Muslims.”
Mohammed Moussaoui, president of the Union of the French Mosque, emphasized that he was “frightened and shocked” by news of the attack, since he had just prayed with Pope Francis “for peace and brotherhood capable to consolidate and strengthen the world,” with a special intention for Christians in the Middle East.
“If extremists keep on doubling their effort and intensifying their actions, violence and atrocities, Muslims must intensify their reaction to these barbaric acts, sometimes unfortunately perpetuated in the name of Islam,” Moussaoui said.

Re: Terrorist Attack In Paris
This will add to the interest..
The BBC's Hugh Schofield in Paris reports on the publication of a provocative new book which depicts France as an Islamicised country where universities are compelled to teach the Koran, women are made to wear the veil and polygamy is lawful.
In the year 2022, France has continued its slow collapse and a Muslim party leader takes over as the country's new president.
Women are encouraged to leave their jobs and unemployment falls. Crime evaporates in the banlieues. Veils become the norm and polygamy is authorised.

That author's comments in that article were chilling. He's basically like, we'll all do fine under the new Islamist regime - except the feminists. And maybe we're better off going back to religion-centered life, fuck the enlightenment.

Why don't you go stick your head back in a bucket of shit?
Anyone failing to see the reaction that the publication today of such a novel, by France's most famous living author Michel Houellebecq, today of all days, will make in the already tense situation in France, must REALLY have shit for brains.

Added to which, it's mentioned in LJ's OP:
Liberal isolationism consists of "Oh dear, oh dear - what can we do, other than be cuddly and nice and give everybody a gold star for effort and isn't it a shame they just shot all our children? We just aren't doing enough to keep everyone happy"
And Big RR, why assume that "liberal isolationism" is anything other than a description of a particular kind of isolationism? Did I say it was the only kind? I think not, my fine feathered friend! Conservative isolationism would encompass "kick 'em all out and let 'em kill each other before they kill us".Wednesday's attack comes the same day of the release of a book by a celebrated French novelist depicting France's election of its first Muslim president.

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Re: Terrorist Attack In Paris
The discussion in this thread has been so simple-minded and ignorantly alarmist as to be truly depressing. I don't have time to even begin to address all the bigoted bullshit about "Islam" and its "attack" on Europe/U.S. being bandied about. But just stop a minute to consider this: with 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, even a million terrorist thugs claiming to be jihadists would represent the most minuscule fraction the Ummah and the tiniest splinter of Islam. Just as you can find plenty of assholes among those who claim to follow Jesus, you can find plenty of assholes among those who claim to follow Muhammad. It is a statistical inevitability.
From the Muslim perspective, there has been an ongoing Western war on Islam since the 12th Century -- at some times by sword and cannon, at others simply by cultural arrogance and ignorance. Fundamentalism, extremism and violence naturally increase when people believe they are being oppressed and their values degraded.

So having pointed out your utter ignorance once more, can you tell me what is "alarmist" about pointing our the possible problems which could be caused by the publication of this novel, today of all days.rubato wrote:

sue is blind to the truth. islam is and was always spread by the sword. they seek world wide sharia law. they are waging overt war all over Africa, all over the middle east. they are waging covert war across Europe and the U.S,. financed by Saudi Arabia and others. my god the crusades were almost 1000 yrs ago, this is now.
the first gulf war was waged against a non religious gov t, to save Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and their oil. we stopped Serbia from ethnicly cleansing the muslims from bosnia, we only went to Afghanistan after being attacked. we support muslims and their govts all over. kurds, egyptians Jordanians .
no one is saying all muslims are evil, but there are way more than a million who want your soul, dead or alive.
dammit sue, wake up. they want everything. I d bet that there are 1 million happily hateful muslims in france alone.
all it takes is for good people to do nothing....
alarmist? damned right, when there is a fire you sound the alarm, and put it out.
just stick your head in the sand and pretend it s all ok. even the great all powerful sue will get old, if she is lucky. sorry to mix threads, but sue will get it. maybe, she seems rather dense.
