Terrorist Attack In Paris
Re: Terrorist Attack In Paris
On the bbc website;

“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

I couldn't disagree more...I think there can be wrest incy line draw
I don't think there can possibly be any wrest incy line draw...

I frying hope anticoolant too
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: Terrorist Attack In Paris
Meade, I'm not an uninformed Christian.
In addition to being raised in a moderate-liberal Christian tradition (Episcopal), I have studied religion a great deal outside of my religious indoctrination. I have studied comparative religions, Bible as literature, etc. at the graduate level.
I'm very well aware of the various dogmas perpetuated by various sects of Christianity, and I reject them all.

1. "Me either" means I was agreeing with you. I don't believe a God of love would etc. etc.MajGenl.Meade wrote:Me either! But fortunately I'm not required to believe that. I recognize this really isn't the thread to debate the issue but I am sorry that you experienced such deficient theological training. Uninformed Christians are a definite deterrent.I don't believe a God of love would put so many of his beautiful creatures into circumstances in which they'd be almost certain to fail the test of faith. That's just cruel.
2. I'm not required to believe that because it's not biblical Christianity
3. That comment was not about you. "ninformed Christians" are those who turn people away from Christ by providing deficient theological information. You are right (in what I quoted from you above)
That's all. Again, I regret any lack of clarity in what I wrote.

So, Meade, do you believe that a nonbeliever such as me will have yet one more opportunity to be redeemed through the Lord after death?

I don't know. It seems on the face of it that if a person goes to their earthly death denying God and His offer of salvation then that choice has been made.bigskygal wrote:So, Meade, do you believe that a nonbeliever such as me will have yet one more opportunity to be redeemed through the Lord after death?

Right; so billions of people on this planet are doomed.
That's why I'm not so keen on Christianity, or any other faith that dooms good people of other faiths to nothingness. Christianity and Islam are on even footing in that regard.

Well BSG, let's sign off on this one in this thread, OK? Others want to talk about what a cartoon looks like upside down and other important things.bigskygal wrote:Right; so billions of people on this planet are doomed.

I'll close off my side by saying this: Christianity is either true or it isn't true. If it is true, then it is a description of what is happening and that's worth paying attention to.
If it's not true, then it is utterly irrelevant and no on is doomed to anything more than to becoming tree food as you put it. (I like that - I've seen it expressed as 'top soil' too).
In either case, no one is doomed by Christianity. To say it dooms anyone is the same thing as saying that a Don't Walk sign (whether its operating or not) condemns people to being run over. Peace. Out.

Re: Terrorist Attack In Paris
I'm fine with that Meade, but the reason the point came up in this discussion is with regard to the fact that Christians don't really have the higher ground in criticizing the strong conversion tenet in Islam. That's. All.
We got sidetracked in the confusion of misunderstanding one another, but my point was relevant.
Back to the OP; it was very moving to see the frogs burst into their national anthem on the parliament floor for the first time since 1918 - a very moving tribute to their fallen countrymen.
I love the cover of Charlie Hebdo, it's absolutely perfect.
