Love letters to Richard Dawkins
Love letters to Richard Dawkins
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
Re: Love letters to Richard Dawkins
I believe 'people of faith' call that "witnessing" and believe they are winning souls for Christ by doing it.

Re: Love letters to Richard Dawkins
I didn't bother listening, relying upon someone to clue me in on the content (thanks for that rubato). Apparently these are either moronic or abusive (or both) communications to the Dorkster and I expect rubato is correct again - self-delusion on the part of the writers, accompanied no doubt by considerable ignorance of their own faith.
Pity. Still, God will save who He saves and Dawkins will deter from salvation as many as he can (aided by such letters from those who should know better). Good work if you can get it but so very temporary.

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

I laughed so hard at this that the dog and the husband came in to see what was going on. Nearly died when he said, "bitch" as a southern USAian.
Dawkins sets my gaydar off but I read up on his bio and apparently not.

Re: Love letters to Richard Dawkins
Dawkins is married to Lalla Ward, an actress who (among other things) played the Dr. Who companion Romana in the Tom Baker series:

She is the third Mrs. Dawkins, they've been married since '92.

I rather believe that God, if one exists, is far more likely to save atheists who refused to buy into the ugliness spewed by so-called 'Christians' than s/he is to save the so-called 'Christians' who have so horribly perverted and twisted the message of love that Christ preached.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

I'd be willing to bet that high profile Christian proselytizers get the same kind of "fan mail" that this Atheist proselytizer gets...
The Atheist faith has plenty of hateful bile spewers too...

But.... But.... They don't count because I agree with them and they do have a point even though it's inartfully made... And look at what those people are doing..... They're much much worse... Why? I don't agree with them.... their point is invalidated by the way they have made it....
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Re: Love letters to Richard Dawkins
Me too, bearing in mind that the ones being saved have done nothing whatsoever to merit being saved but have by grace come to have faith. The faith thing is in there somewhere...bigskygal wrote:I rather believe that God, if one exists, is far more likely to save atheists who refused to buy into the ugliness spewed by so-called 'Christians' than s/he is to save the so-called 'Christians' who have so horribly perverted and twisted the message of love that Christ preached.

And religious nutcases have done nothing whatsoever to merit the longer lives and reduced suffering from diseases brought by empirical science but they get to enjoy them anyway.
Even though they persecuted and murdered the very people who have, ultimately, saved them.

Maybe the mouse in your pocket is rube, but you're not better than anyone...We are better than you are

Re: Love letters to Richard Dawkins
I thought we'd agreed we are all children of the universe, of equal value & import?
Meade, just so you know - I'm a hopeful agnostic who wants very much to believe in a truly loving divine entity. To that end, given that I strive to live by the golden rule and that I beat myself up endlessly when I sin or hurt someone inadvertently or out of excess of pride, I feel pretty confident that if God exists s/he will forgive me my trespasses, including my unwillingness to worship in a building with too many hypocrites in the congregation.
I go to the UU church every now & then, but generally when I want to think on the divine, I go to the mountains or put Bach on the music player.

Re: Love letters to Richard Dawkins
Always room for one more hypocrite, bsg! One of the things that almost all non-believers and too many Christians (unfortunately) share is not understanding that going to church isn't supposed to make anyone "better" than anyone else. The Christian in the pew is no less of a sinner - no less - than someone who never enters a church. Thieves gonna thieve, liars gonna lie and hypocrites gonna hyp.
