An over is six balls deliveries. Which over did you mean?

Start again. An over is six legal deliveries. No... not subpoenas and not a summons.

The overs that are over are already over. Over?

Is there a picture for the batting circle? Bound to be a Cleveland fan or two in that one!

AFGHANISTAN has won its first ever Cricket World Cup match with a nailbiting one-wicket victory over Scotland in Dunedin.

Image

The match went right to the wire, with Samiullah Shenwari coming agonisingly close to steering Afghanistan home before he was dismissed for 96 late in the 47th over.

Josh Davey took the tricky catch on the deep mid-wicket boundary off Majid Haq, leaving Afghanistan needing 19 off 19 balls with one wicket in hand to chase down Scotland’s modest tally of 210.

Shapoor Zadran saw Afghanistan home with three balls to spare, picking off a low full toss on leg stump to win the match on a four and sparking wild celebrations at the University Oval.

Although disappointed at missing his maiden ODI century, Shenwari was still pleased with his career-best 96, 14 runs more than his previous best.

“There was big pressure, because we lost five wickets early,” he said afterwards.

TILLAKARATNE Dilshan hit an unbeaten century and claimed two wickets as Sri Lanka finally looked like a World Cup contender with a 92-run victory over a sloppy Bangladesh on Thursday in a Pool A game.

Dilshan made the most of an early fielding error to fire 22 boundaries en route to a score of 161, his third World Cup century. Sangakkara marked his 400th one-day international with a quick-fire 105 off 76 balls in a 210-run partnership after Sri Lanka won the toss and batted on a placid Melbourne Cricket Ground wicket.

Lahiru Thirimanne (52) was the lone Sri Lankan wicket to fall, but not before raising an attractive half century in a 122-run opening partnership with Dilshan.

“They (Dilshan and Sangakkara) were brilliant,” Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews said. “They batted us through and Dilshan was amazing.”

Lasith Malinga (3-35) used his express pace to bowl Tamim Iqbal for a duck with just the second ball of the chase and Sri Lanka never looked in danger as Bangladesh capitulated for 240.

I'm actually happy for the Afghanis...

I'm hoping they win this interminably tedious thing; if ever a country deserved a morale boost and a collective moment of celebration and national pride, those poor bastards certainly do...

Of course it would only mean triumphing in an obscure, off-brand pseudo-sport, but it would still give them something to celebrate...

Oh my god what a fucking match!!

Aus all out for 152, NZ wanting only 6 runs, with 32 overs in hand, lose two wickets in quick succession to be down to their last man, before smacking a big six to clinch the match.

Brilliant!!!

NZ are in the top half a dozen sides.

So New Zealand are in the top half of an order of French fries, cole slaw, onion rings, and barbecue wings...

and some other sides... 8-)

Oh christ on a pogo stick, this is NOT good news...

England thrashed by Sri Lanka in World Cup in Wellington

Image

England slipped to a third crushing defeat in four World Cup games as Sri Lanka comfortably chased 310 to win by nine wickets in Wellington. Lahiru Thirimanne hit an unbeaten 139 and Kumar Sangakkara 117 not out to seal victory with 16 balls to spare. Earlier, Joe Root hit 121 as England accelerated late on to post 309-6.

They must almost certainly win their last two Pool A games, against Bangladesh and Afghanistan, to reach the quarter-finals. Thirimanne and Sangakkara added an unbroken 212 as Sri Lanka claimed a third straight win to move to within two points of New Zealand at the top of Pool A.

This was only the second time in one-day internationals that a team have lost by nine wickets after passing 300 in the first innings.

Sangakkara's century, his second in succession and the joint fifth quickest in World Cups - off 70 balls - took him into third place in the list of all-time leading World Cup run scorers.

Last live match of the tournament, and of the cricket season, for me today, Ireland Vs. The Boers. I don't hold out much hope of an Irish win. :D

Shame, I've enjoyed each and every match I've attended, they've all been played with great verve and aplomb.

Still, plenty of matches on TV to watch coming up.

Here's my photos of the Windies Vs. Zimbabwe..
