One compared the number of songwriters on Hansen's new-folk album, Morning Phase (which has now topped the iTunes chart in the United States) to Beyonce's self-titled album.
Beyonce used a team of 25 writers and 16 producers,. Beck just one: himself.

Another comparison was the number of instrumental credits each artist received. Beck sang and played 17 instruments on Morning Phase including a charango and a zither.
Beyonce sang.

I have a distinct memory of the last time I watched the Grammys - it was the year Tracy Chapman won best new artist.

I bought Morning Phase for my devices as soon as it released.

I have never bought a Beyonce or Kanye album, nor listened purposefully to one of their songs. Maybe they are good? Certainly they make money. I tend to shy away from trends until they become classics - Beck is an instant classic.

Beyonce is good at wiggling her ass and miming to other people's songs. Which, I suppose, is as good as it gets in pop music these days.

I guess I should have said, although I don't watch the Grammys anymore, I do 'get' that awards shows are meaningful to the people who toil in the industry - especially the ones who don't get wildly wealthy like trendy musicians do.

I think it's shit that Kanye did that to Beck. I think it's ridiculous that the Grammys are probably gladder for the publicity of it than they are regretful for the ruination of Beck's moment of glory.

Never watched the Grammy's nor the Oscars, nor the Tony's nor the Emmys even though the engineering team I was part of won two Emmy's. They were for engineering and were not part of the broadcast awards.
