Study: Men are lazy to their core

Post by rubato »

TOTally unfair and untrue! We're just better adapted to our surroundings than women are. Who invented Buddhism? Us, that's who. And WHY did we invent Buddhism? Because we saw that you can either work every minute of the day trying to push back against the 2nd law of thermodynamics (our discovery, btw) or you can just redefine "good" to include the state you find yourself in right now. Genius!

"... Sayer points to this finding: even when there's nobody around to pick up after them, men still don't spend a lot of time on housework. "In 2012 single women with no children reported doing almost twice as much cooking, cleaning, and laundry as single men with no children," she writes. In other words, men are simply more slovenly than women, and less averse to filth. ... "

Women are just programmed for greater dissatisfaction and unhappiness than men are. A little light 'slovening' makes a house look lived-in, homey. It's about learning to accept yourself. Aummmm.

Q: "Why can't a woman be more like a man." A: Because they want to be miserable and we just don't!

oh, I don t know. I think that once a man gets to be a mature adult their slovenly habits and tolerance of filth abates, but by then they are in a steady relationship which allows them to foist the responsibility upon their spouse.

I'm sure it's due to being raised by an OCD military retiree, but I can't stand a filthy house. I can't even really focus on work or leisure if my house is moderately filthy/disorganized.

I'll let the dog hair accumulate for a few days at a time before vacuuming, but in general my piece of mind has been much improved in recent months as I've finally gotten fully unpacked, gotten the house organized and decorated, and have been washing floors weekly so they are always decent when clients drop in.

Things get a bit dusty on the shelves and I've learned not to mind that too much - Montana is very dusty, and having a 103 year old house means dust happens.

I like to come down in the morning to a clean sink, so at very least I put the dishes in the dishwasher. I like my toilets cleaned at least weekly.

I don't think this is much to expect in terms of cleanliness, but I've lived with roommates both male AND female who tolerated a much higher level of ICK than I ever would. So, now I set house rules with roommates and if they don't like them, they can find another hovel to reside in. 8-)

Actually, I have met both men and women who were compulsively neat and utter slobs, but most of us fall somewhere in the middle. I do think women skew (or at least used to skew) toward the neater side, probably because they had mothers who were compulsively neat, while men are more tolerant of untidiness. I recall in the college dorms I made my bed only a handful of times over the 3 years I lived there (and had about the same record in my apartments and houses afterwards), but rarely saw a girl's room where such was the case. It wasn't slovenliness--I changed my linens regularly, e.g.--but I just didn't care if someone saw my bed unmade. But I di recall my mother saying, when I was younger, "What will people think if you when they see your unmade bed?"--which probably pushed me more to leaving it unmade as I just didn't care what people thought about that. My guess is that women were worked on more diligently by their mothers to care (although this may well be changing in a world where mom works and has a lot more important things to care about.

I haven't made my bed in at least a dozen years!

eta: I might have straightened the comforter over the sheets here or there if I had guests coming, but never is it neatly made. Fresh sheets every week, though!

My wife does not let me make the bed, nor mop/vacume/clean, nor do the dishes. Says I don't do it good enough.
Works for me.
:ok
