They Made Me Eat It!

Brazil McDonald's worker who adds weight wins suit
Associated Press

.
(10-29) 04:00 PDT Sao Paulo - --

A Brazilian court ruled this week that McDonald's must pay a former franchise manager $17,500 because he gained 65 pounds while working there for a dozen years.

The 32-year-old man said he felt forced to sample the food each day to ensure quality standards remained high, because McDonald's hired "mystery clients" to randomly visit restaurants and report on the food, service and cleanliness.

The man also said the company offered free lunches to employees, adding to his caloric intake while on the job. His identity was not released.

The ruling was signed Tuesday by Judge Joao Ghisleni Filho in Porto Alegre.

Ghisleni said McDonald's could appeal the case, and the Brazilian headquarters of the chain said in an e-mailed statement Thursday it was weighing its legal options.

McDonald's also noted that it offers healthier food choices.

"The chain offers a large variety of options and balanced menus to cater (to) the daily dietary needs of its employees," the company said in the statement.

McDonald's headquarters is in Oak Brook, Ill.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Oh dear. One of the few perks of McJobs is the free grub, if they take that away....

That's ridiculous. First of all, the ruling means that gaining weight causes illegal damage to a person. Then it assumes that the person gained weight only because of what he ate at McDonald's, not anywhere else, including at home.

Using that court's logic (based on the little the article reveals) would the man be awarded compensation for losing weight if he lost weight and McDonald's didn't feed him?

I know many chefs that aren't overweight.

When they sample their food to make sure it tastes right, they don't eat the fucking lot.

How I wish this case was thrown out (as much as I have always hated McD's).
Bah!

I believe it was either Ann Landers who years ago said:

"The best exercise a person can get, is pushing themselves away from the dinner table..." :D

(That, along with "the best form of birth control is an aspirin....held tightly between the knees" ranks as one of my favorite Ann Landersisms)
