Another Show We're Checking Out That's Been On Awhile...

Post by Lord Jim »

After working our way through Deadwood, and Boardwalk Empire, and The Wire, and Game of Thrones, we were looking for a new quality show that we had missed the first time around...

And on the recommendation of a friend, we came across Showtime's Homeland...

Brilliant stuff...

We're now halfway through season two...

(I understand that Claire Danes has won two Emmys for her portrayal of Carrie Mathison; they are well deserved...)

Damian "Sgt. Brody" Lewis should also have gotten one...

A British actor playing a convincing "Manchurian Candidate" style American War Hero...

Well at least he's not Canadian... :P

Homeland is one of the first series that I ever binge watched. I enjoyed it very much but not as much as Justified...

Did you not read reviews by me and Guin and others about Homeland? Why do we even bother to post?

Now, go watch Season 1 of Ray Donovan.

How do you people get so much time to watch TV?

I watch our favourite cooking show Masterchef each day, 40 minutes, and that's my sole TV consumption.

When one has children, (especially a young child) watching television becomes a substitute for having a social life... 8-)

Just freaking go watch The Wire already. Sheesh. Especially will all that has happened in Baltimore this spring, you will find it utterly fascinating.

I really do think its one of the best shows every made.

The Wire was one of the best series ever made...a lot of if it seemed almost like a documentary...

The talent of the kids was incredibly impressive...

(BTW, I guessed correctly when we watched that episode, that the book McNulty pulled off the shelf in Stringer Bell's condo was Adam Smith's The Wealth Of Nations 8-) )

The one problem I had with this show was trying to see Deirdre Lovejoy as a "good guy" after seeing her as the psycho serial killer Heather "The Gravedigger" Taffet on Bones...

You know you're becoming an old fart when Friday night rolls around and instead of asking:

"what are we going to do tonight?" or "where do you want to go tonight?" you're asking, "what do we want to watch tonight ?"... :( :?

The finale episode of season two of Homeland had a final scene that was so wildly implausible that it's poisoned my interest in the show...

SPOILERS BELOW!!!

With a Memorial Service going on at The Headquarters of the CIA, that includes the family of The Vice president who just died of a heart attack, The Secretary of Defense, The Attorney General, and numerous other leading luminaries of the government in attendance...

Somebody is able to move Brody's c-4 ladden car to sit out unattended and unchallenged by any security personnel, right outside the entrance to where this ceremony is taking place...

I'm sorry, but I know from personal experience that post 9/11 you can't even pull up and wait at the exit level of an airport for more than a minute or two without some security person showing up to tell you to move along...

But somebody's able to move this car into this position at The CIA Headquarters, and leave it there, and nobody notices?

It's too bad because there's a lot about this show that's really well made and well developed in terms of the story and the characters, and the actors, and the writing and the action...

But that was so ridiculous...

Am I the only one who thinks the ability of drones for visually tracking people was a bit exaggerated in Homeland, or am I just a skeptical out of touch techno-challenged ignoramus?

I just binged Seasons 1 & 2, then episode one of Season 3. This show is freaking terrific! I've been a Liev Schreiber fan since he first appeared in indy films back in the 90s, but he is totally amazing in this role - INTENSE!

Great show with many other great performances, especially Jon Voight's.

Forget visual tracking, just have the drone lock on to the "ping" your cell phone puts out constantly.
Visual tracking requires recognition software. Not minimal in code length nor complexity.
