In Boston, I'd say one of two things--the boats in the pond of the Boston Common, which contain benches for tourists and a guy pedaling them around the pond, or these big open truck, sort of landing crafts, that carry tourists around town and can go into the river and work as a boat (the tour is called a "Duck Tour").

That was down here in Philly, last summer. (I had been on the same tour a few weeks earlier with my daughter's class; it was goofy fun. But I never knew how close we were to the shipping channel.)
