Removed original post and replaced it with this:
That doesn't make any sense, does it wesw?
So you are suggesting that supporters of the Confederate flag should give up on that and instead insist on flying the Betsy Ross flag of the original United States?well, the guys who support the flag because of their heritage should perhaps switch to the flag with the 13 stars to make their points....
That doesn't make any sense, does it wesw?

Re: A Thread For Posts About The Confederate Battle Flag...
Consider: At the end of the "Civil War," one might note that none of the political or military leaders of the Confederacy were tried for treason (or similar crimes). There was some rhetoric to the effect that this was just the U.S. being "gracious."
Nonsense.
Jeff Davis - also never charged with treason - let it be known that if he were charged and tried for treason, his defense was going to be that there is nothing in the Constitution preventing the States which had joined the Union voluntarily from leaving it. And the question was considered so uncertain that the nation's leaders saw a real possibility that the USSC would one day decide they were right, making the entire Civil War a constitutional cluster-fuck. Regardless of who fired the first shot. No one was prosecuted, most notably Jeff Davis.
So we had the curious phenomenon of southern states erecting monuments and such to political and military leaders who in fact had been guilty of treason against the United States, and the US government doing nothing to stop it.
It remains one perverse phenomenon, 150 years later. Is it too late to correct this mistake?

13 stars I was talking about. The rebel battle flag had 13 stars but not 13 stripes
Didn't count the stripes.
Sorry for lack of clarity.

COLUMBIA, South Carolina — The Confederate flag has been temporarily removed from in front of the South Carolina Statehouse.
An unidentified black woman was about halfway up the more than 30-foot steel flagpole just after dawn Saturday when State Capitol police told her to come down. Instead, she continued up and removed the flag before returning to the ground.
The woman and another man who had entered the wrought-iron fence surrounding the flag were arrested.
The flag, which is protected by state law, was raised again a short time later. A rally by flag supporters was scheduled for later Saturday.
Calls for removing the flag have been renewed since nine black churchgoers were killed in what police characterized as a racist attack at a Charleston, South Carolina church last week.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Yep - if it was a Nazi flag you'd cheer too.
I don't see any moral equivalence between this action and defacing monuments. Why, that would be like equating rubato and LJ's posts - something that could never stand!

meade joins the list of those who s views are flexible according to how he feels at any particular moment or about any particular issue. if he used the same logic as he did about "the farmer in the dell" house, he would oppose this act on the same grounds.
of course he doesn t really matter, he has no stake, he has no country, he is not much of a citizen. he refuses to address himself or others as American, instead using a snide insulting moniker, USians. he refers to us as "upstart colonists who want to please daddy England", or some such claptrap. I tried to quote it excactly but the post seems to have gone.
I don t know what meade meant earlier about "original post removed, replaced with this", if he read carefully both posts are there, and the views in them were discussed and explained earlier. but meade did not read carefully or did not understand something, so it must be non sense.
the point was that I was raised as a rebel, not a confederate, not with that stupid flag, but as a rebel in the sense of the original colonial rebels, who meade apparently has his issues with. this point was made clearly in an earlier post, which meade must have read because he does not like to leave "unread posts"
daddy complex indeed. go tend your empire pops......

Re: A Thread For Posts About The Confederate Battle Flag...
Perhaps you've a point. However, I see a difference between breaking the law for commercial gain and legitimate protest. The lady in a non-violent way climbed up a pole, took down a flag, and then gave it to the authorities (undamaged) and quietly gave up to the police. Unlike the farmer, she wasn't trying to work an angle on society.wesw wrote:meade joins the list of those who s views are flexible according to how he feels at any particular moment or about any particular issue. if he used the same logic as he did about "the farmer in the dell" house, he would oppose this act on the same grounds.

Since I refer to myself as a USian, you allege that I am using a snide insulting moniker to describe myself. That appears to be an odd analysis. I may not matter - true. I do have a stake and I do have a country (two, in a way).
The post is still there - Arts section; subject: Why? - and it reads like this in reference to the USian entertainment industry: For some reason, the US seems to think it must imitate the UK - perhaps it's the servile, anxious to please Daddy for the former colonists.he refers to us as "upstart colonists who want to please daddy England", or some such claptrap. I tried to quote it excactly but the post seems to have gone.
Hmm, I left the word "syndrome" out - between Daddy and for. Since you are far from entertaining and I am a citizen, it is clear the comment did not refer to "us" if by that you mean "all citizens of the USA".
I made a new post which was extremely rude and regrettable. I edited the new post, removing the original sentiment and replaced it with new text. I am not surprised that such technical wizardry baffled you.I don t know what meade meant earlier about "original post removed, replaced with this", if he read carefully both posts are there, and the views in them were discussed and explained earlier. but meade did not read carefully or did not understand something, so it must be non sense.
I have issues neither with colonial rebels nor delusional people. Sad to say, I don't read all "unread" posts. I open the thread and then close it without bothering to read any of the posts. That action removes it from the Unread list. However, I may have read the post you refer to but since you give no clue as to where it is and who wrote it... I cannot possibly comment.the point was that I was raised as a rebel, not a confederate, not with that stupid flag, but as a rebel in the sense of the original colonial rebels, who meade apparently has his issues with. this point was made clearly in an earlier post, which meade must have read because he does not like to leave "unread posts"

I'd give you a 5/10 for effort and 4 for content. There was a deduction for the first sentence error - not who s but whose.

No, it's called CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE and it has a very long and storied tradition in this country, ESPECIALLY concerning the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT. Did you miss Jr. High School civics class?Lord Jim wrote:So I see we have a couple of supporters of vigilante vandalism here...
See how she's standing quietly while they handcuff her? She is prepared to suffer the consequences of breaking an UNJUST law.
Look it up - it's not vigilantism.

Would you all be opposed to us choosing a new design using our tradition colors. How about a solid red field with a white border, would that be offensive/ Why does it bother you Yankee so much if we have a separate heritage?
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.
