Re: anybody else gonna be packin' on the 4th?
all sorts of govt warnings out about the high possibility of coordinated ISIS type attacks on the 4th. new York city is welding manhole covers shut and breaking out the radiation detectors and the snipers are gonna be posted. very serious people in govt seem very worried about this weekend and the possibility, even likely hood of attack.
so.....
according to the info I ve gleaned from homeland security officials, elected representatives and CIA types, and all of their statements over the last few days....
...it seems wise to me to have my home defense pump gun in the bed of my truck with me as I watch the fireworks. that way if some asshole pulls a Tunisia on us, he ll have a little trouble.....

radio, television, newspapers......

Apart from the fact that I live in a place which doesn't get US newspapers delivered, has poor US radio and TV signals, that was very helpful.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nati ... /29389963/Fourth of July terror warning issued by FBI, Homeland Security
Federal authorities have warned local law enforcement officials across the country about a heightened concern involving possible terror attacks targeting the July 4th holiday, a U.S. law enforcement official said.
While there was no specific or credible threat of attack, the official said the intelligence bulletin prepared by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI alerted local colleagues to the ongoing threats posed by the Islamic State and other homegrown extremists. The official was not authorized to comment publicly.
The bulletins are frequently issued in advance of major U.S. holidays out of an abundance of caution and concern that operatives may exploit the timing to generate greater attention.
The warning comes as federal investigators have worked to disrupt a number of Islamic State-inspired plots, including a planned assault earlier this month on police officers in Boston. In that case, authorities fatally shot Usaamah Rahim as he allegedly planned to attack police with military-style knives.
Also this month, a New York suspect in a Islamic State-related terror investigation was arrested after attacking an FBI agent with a kitchen knife during a search of his home.
Fareed Mumuni, 21, was charged with attempted murder, after he emerged as a suspect in alleged plots to use pressure-cooker explosives and knives to attack police.
In a statement Friday following attacks in Tunisia, France and Kuwait, DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said local law enforcement was being encouraged to be "vigilant and prepared'' in preparation for July 4th celebrations.

I'll be in the northeast outback of Pennsylvania. Don't mess with the rednecks.

This is starting to look like either a hoax or an honest mistake, but after what happened in 2013 the law enforcement response is certainly understandable:
http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/02/politics/ ... -activity/Washington Navy Yard on lockdown Thursday
Washington (CNN)Washington D.C.'s Navy Yard facility is under lockdown Thursday morning, according to a Tweet from the U.S. Navy. This is the site of a 2013 shooting where 12 people were killed.
So far, officials haven't found any evidence of a shooting, a law enforcement source told CNN.
Police are searching building 197 on Thursday morning, the same building where the 2013 Navy Yard shooting took place, a source with DC's Metropolitan Police Department tells CNN. Police have cleared part of that building, according to the same law enforcement source.
The source said the original 911 call reported a shooting on the second floor. The source confirmed that the Metropolitan Police and multiple law enforcement agencies are checking for a person with a gun in the building.
The U.S. Navy says the facility is under a shelter-in-place order.
Navy Commander Scott Williams, who was at the Navy Yard on Thursday morning and during the attack two years ago, told CNN's "New Day" that the scene unfolding around the complex was "pretty much a mirror image of 2013".
Naval Architect Jordan Rongers told CNN that the response and evacuation "pretty much the same thing as happened three years ago, but I think the response has been much better," citing better protocols and security.
In a preventative measure, officials closed Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. A law enforcement official says the move is a standard security precaution in light of potential navy yard incident under investigation.
A defense official says the Pentagon has not raised its security posture here on the Pentagon complex in reaction to the situation at Navy Yard, but they are keeping a close eye on what is going on.
Dozens of police and ambulance vehicles surrounded the Washington Navy Yard on Thursday morning. Bystanders tweeted photos of the scene, though official details on the incident we're scarce as of Thursday morning.

Yes, I'll be packing for sure.
Packing a chair, umbrella, towel, beach bag with sunscreen and Kindle and rash guard, maybe my kayak, and a cooler with water, fruit, snacks, sandwich, an illicit beer or two. Friday working outside around the house, Saturday/Sunday at my beach, woohooooooooooo

I think he needs to readdress the calculus of his hyperbole. The US Air Force has cancelled Independence Day celebrations at a base in Norfolk, citing security concerns.
The public event at RAF Feltwell would have featured a display from the Red Arrows. Col Robert Novotny, commander of the 48th Fighter Wing, said the two-day event had been cancelled "out of prudence... to make sure that our folks were safe." He denied the decision played into the hands of "terrorists". "We cancelled our picnic - we haven't cancelled a single combat sortie," he said.
"We haven't taken our foot off the throat of the enemy - none of that has changed. "So if the terrorists consider us cancelling a picnic as a victory, I think they should readdress their calculus."
Asked whether the cancellation related to the massacre, Col Novotny said: "There are some things which I can't share right now. "They are not enough to significantly alter the way we do business, other than deciding having military personal from both the US Air Force and RAF is probably not the best thing to do this year. "What we learned over the last 48 hours... gave us a great pause as to whether we wanted to have a large mass gathering on a military base. "We decided out of prudence that we would cancel the event this year as far as to make sure that our folks were safe."
He said it was hoped the Red Arrows would return for a future display. The Lincolnshire-based team said on Twitter: "We're sorry to say tomorrow's display and event has been cancelled by organisers."
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
