14 alleged BGF gang members indicted on racketeering charges

BALTIMORE - Fourteen men have been indicted on racketeering and drug trafficking offenses as alleged members of the notorious Black Guerilla Family gang.

The 9-count superseding indictment was returned on June 3 and unsealed Wednesday in federal court in Baltimore.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says the men are accused of two murders, two attempted murders and three fatal drug overdoses.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen Vogt called BGF it's number one violent gang target in Baltimore.

"It's a criminal organization on the streets of Baltimore and the main thing is violence out there. Violence, drug trafficking, murder. That's what they do. That's what we listened to for months over the intercepts," Vogt said.

The indictment says that from at least 2012 to now, the alleged gang members took part in narcotics trafficking, murder, extortion; robbery, and retaliation against a witness or informant.

This brings to 118 the total number of alleged BGF members and associates indicted in federal court since April 2009.

"Fourteen may not seem a lot to you but many times within the crimes and violence within our city, there's a small number of people who are responsible for that violence and they do it time and time again. Cutting off the head is a big step for us," Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said.
