Maybe, maybe not. While I think it might well be based on Obama's race, it might also be just a "fuck you" from the protesters to the president who has made his views on the flag an issue. If it were a white person driving by ho expressed the same views, I'd bet they'd wave the flag at him/her as well.

Don’t all people have a right to self determination?

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - To show support for the West Monroe Rebel mascot and the Confederate flag hundreds of people rallied together in West Monroe Tuesday night and fly their flags high. It's about flags, football, and freedom.
"It's about the history and heritage," said Cole Watson from Calhoun.
"To us, it's a symbol of something we believe in," said Brandon Bell of West Monroe.
"It is pride and joy," said Bobby Massey of West Monroe.
Hundreds decorated their cars, trucks, and even motorcycles with the rebel flag and headed to West Monroe to show off their pride. Many say it's their right to fly the flag.
"The first amendment. The freedom of speech and the freedom to express ourselves," said Watson.
"It's not even about the mascot or the flag it's about taking our liberties away from us and we don't like it," said Bell.
Hundreds headed out to support their rebel pride and fly their flags high. They say this is about their heritage and history, and isn't an issue of discrimination or race.
"People try to utilize situations like this as an opportunity to create separation between community," said Bell.
"You look down through here, you look down through there, you look at them right there, and it's not about discrimination," said Massey.
A parking lot packed with people demonstrating their right to fly the flag to remember the history it symbolizes for many southern states. And people who were at the rebel ride say they're here to stay.
"We won't stand down and let our heritage be stomped on," said Watson.
"This town was built on the fundamentals that we stick together no matter what," said Bell.
And will keep flying the flags to symbolize their heritage no matter what.

Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

They have a right to know f-all about history and tell lies. They are racists; they are ignorant. There is no effort to halt private persons flying a flag or sticking it up their arse for that matter.
"Our" heritage - and they still cannot point to one thing that flag represents that is peculiarly southern, culturally or historically, other than a rebellion against the government for the purpose of safeguarding slavery. That's heritage all right.
