Windows 10

Post by Joe Guy »

Windows 10 is installing on my laptop as we speak.... er... as I type... err... I mean - as I utilize my keyboard for communication purposes...

It started loading about 1/2 hour ago without warning. I decided to let it install even though I was planning on waiting at least a month so I could first read the good and bad things about it.

Although I use it to come to this website and a few others, my main computer is my iMac, so I'm not worried much.

The fact that it started downloading without my knowledge is a concern, along with what looks like major privacy concerns.

That's why when I do banking and other things that require security I use my iMac.

So, within the next few days I might have something good or bad to add to this thread.....

You'd think I'd know better. I had never, ever downloaded a Microsoft product when it first was introduced. Until now :arg Win 10 randomly disconnects from the internet on my desktop. It sometimes can be reconnected using the builtin troubleshooting tool. Mostly it requires a reboot of the PC or the Modem. It's not my ISP, my wife's computer (running Win 7) continued without a hickup. Both computers are connected with Ethernet cables directly to the Modem/router. A check of the Microsoft knowledge base shows several reports of the same problem but no known fix at this point. It may be coincidence but those who mentioned their brand of computer were using Dell, as am I.

Yeah, that's a feature I always look for in an operating platform...

Suspense and surprise are so much better than an operating platform that works in a boring, predictable way....

I use Skype extensively for communicating with my clients and potential clients, and there's nothing more confidence and credibility building when you're promoting your ability to improve their on-line business results then to have your own system crash while you're talking to them...

An update: When Windows 10 downloaded I could have canceled it and it didn't install until I agreed with the terms and clicked on 'download', so that was a surprise but wasn't really a problem.

I upgraded from Windows 7 so I don't know what 8 looked like. The visual changes might not be that different for W8 users.

The first thing I noticed is that this OS is noticeably faster than Windows 7. The Start menu looks different but is much better in my opinion. I haven't played with Cortana yet but I will fairly soon. It looks like it could be useful if I want to talk to my computer. Apparently it tells jokes too. What more can you ask for in a computer?
