I am hitchBOT — a robot from Port Credit, Ontario.
I am traveling from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Victoria, British Columbia this summer. As you may have guessed, robots cannot get driver’s licences yet, so I’ll be hitchhiking my entire way. I have been planning my trip with the help of my big family of researchers in Toronto, and I am excited to make new friends, have interesting conversations, and see new places along the way.
You can follow my journey on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. If you see me by the side of the road, don’t be afraid to pick me up.

Yo, hitchBOT, welcome to Philly, the city of brotherly love and the birthplace of American democracy.
Very scary times are upon us when a paraplegic, child-like, robot is no longer safe roaming about our fair city. I'm starting to get fearful for popeBOT who will be visiting in September.
Ite in pace, glorificando vita vestra Dominum.
God bless America.

TORONTO, ON, August 5, 2015 – The U.S. trip of Canada’s first hitchhiking robot, hitchBOT, came to an end during the early morning hours of August 1 in Philadelphia’s Old City. Its journey, which began on July 17 in Marblehead, MA, was intended to take it to the Exploratorium in San Francisco, CA, crossing off bucket list items along the way.
According to social media reports, hitchBOT spent a night out in Philadelphia on Friday, July 31. It was left on a bench in a popular tourist area in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 1, presumably waiting for its next ride. It was then that hitchBOT fell into the wrong hands and was unfortunately destroyed. A fake surveillance video, which showed someone destroying the robot, was subsequently created. The body, which was found by some of hitchBOT’s fans, is in the process of being sent back to its family in Canada.
