He asked if Bernie Sanders should speak at the Dem. convention. She said yes. More than once. He kept asking it as if she didn't answer. You apparently weren't listening.


The followup question as to when he should speak is not a yes-no question no matter how much you or Mr Matthews wish to pretend it is. Deciding who speaks during prime time will depend on facts which cannot be known this far in advance.

the question about the difference between a Democrat and whatever flavor of Socialist Bernie Sanders is can only be answered by Bernie Sanders since he is the one making the distinction. Not her. Pure bullshit 'gotcha' interviewing.

No, rubato's right, that was a bullshit line of questioning whose sole purpose was to delegitimize Bernie Sanders as a Democratic Party candidate by trying to make Wasserman-Schultz distance the party from him as a demon Socialist.

And this is why the Democratic Party leadership sucks ass -- because it is so afraid of its own shadow that it can't even utter the word "socialism" for fear of scaring off some potential voter from the 1950s. There's a perfectly good answer that Wasserman-Schultz should have given, and it goes like this:

"You know, Chris, the Democratic Party is big enough and open-minded enough that we can accommodate people with a wide variety of views from nearly every point on the political spectrum, because we're smart enough to know that good ideas can come from anywhere regardless of what philosophical label you slap on them. You know what's socialism, Chris? Medicare is socialism. Ronald Reagan used to rail against Medicare as socialist tyranny that was going to destroy our freedom. And now 50 years later, are you going to tell America that Medicare is a bad thing because it was a socialist idea? The Democratic Party is the only party that's committed to protecting Medicare -- the Republicans want to dismantle it.

"Bernie Sanders obviously gives voice to a large segment of the American public who embrace the same ideals that gave us Medicare. It's too early to say when or if he will speak at the convention -- we aren't even close to the first primary yet -- but he certainly seems to have struck a chord with the American people."

Standing O for Sue, who is, as usual, exactly right. The members of my party who are enthralled with Bernie are also *terrified* of the fact that he is a socialist. I got into a bit of a heated discussion with one of my friends on this very point. She wants to continue to claim Bernie is a Democrat because he has always caucused with the Democrats. And while I appreciate his vote with our caucus, that doesn't make him a Democrat in any way, shape, or form. He is exactly what he has always claimed to be -- a socialist -- and pretending otherwise is silly.

If you're not Christian (and really, fundamentally so - they certainly don't want Episcopalians and Lutherans in their tent), heterosexual, and oh yes, male, and probably white, they could give a flying fuck about you.
