Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit group behind the children’s television program, has struck a five-year deal with HBO, the premium cable network, that will bring first-run episodes of “Sesame Street” exclusively to HBO and its streaming outlets starting in the fall.

Guess senators can't kick Big Bird around anymore
Re: Guess senators can't kick Big Bird around anymore
if we could just get rid of Disney......
Re: Guess senators can't kick Big Bird around anymore
Disney's just the opposite; with its money for donations it kicks senators (and representatives and even presidents) around. When the Sonny Bona Copyright Act extended copyright protection from 56 years to nominally 100, it was Disney seeking to protect its classic cartoons from being distributed on video by others who were among the biggest pushers of it.
Re: Guess senators can't kick Big Bird around anymore
no, they are the same in that sesame street turned itself into a brainwashing system , similar to Disney s longstanding practice of the same.
Re: Guess senators can't kick Big Bird around anymore
Brainwashing? I think they'd call it strategic marketing. And it apparently works well for Disney--year round lands/worlds on both coasts and in several other countries; all Sesame Street can muster is a single seasonal "Place" in Pennsylvania--even Lego does better than that. Both do well on marketing of other crap, but I'd bet Sesame Street has to split a lot of it with Jim Henson productions (and I think Disney has a hand in that).

And I was going to open a line and start taking bets...

Re: Guess senators can't kick Big Bird around anymore
My friends!
Jim--if it ever does take place, can I place a bet? I really don't care if I'm barred for life (who knows how long that might be) from the dueling hall of fame.

Re: Guess senators can't kick Big Bird around anymore
well, I watched the Disney prospective employee orientation video, in Kissimmi Fla, when I was a very young man, and it was definitely a conformist brainwashing organization then....

When we went to Disney, I remember seeing a bunch of new hires being shown around and they had pins on that said "Earning my Ears".
Re: Guess senators can't kick Big Bird around anymore
Well, if you're referring to corporate operations and "Brainwashing" of employees, you might well be right. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney is cult-like in its operations; indeed, I recall a management book for a course I took years ago saying that was one of the few important characteristics of highly successfully companies, pointing out pre-Fiorina Hewlett Packard and General Electric (I worked there for a little over the year and if you wanted to succeed you had to drink the Kool Aid) as good examples. The idea behind it is/was that you could get both a total commitment to the corporation by setting up some sort of way where the insiders were seen as different from (and better than) the unwashed masses; people who were part of something important. As I recall, this stemmed from some of the studies done with Japanese corporations and their employee practices (and I imagine, the military). I didn't quite buy it, and was more than happy to leave GE
I don't know much about the organization around Sesame Street or its operations, though, so I couldn't say how they treat employees.
I honestly thought you were going to raise the old charges that Ernie and Bert living together somehow promoted a gat agenda and th elike.

nah, I couldn t give two shits about bert and ernie s bedroom activities.....
I do a pretty good ernie impression tho...., hey bert, you awake burt?
I was more referring to sesame street and pbs and npr, promoting the liberal agenda, and sesame street in particular seemed to become a tool of liberal indoctrination....
it s the GOP s own fault, it really became prevalent after their attempt to de fund PBS and NPR

Re: Guess senators can't kick Big Bird around anymore
Indoctrination of the children through the show? What sort of indoctrination and what liberal agenda? Granted it has been a while (at least 12 years) since either of my children watched Sesame Street, but I never recall any sort of political agenda at all. It taught issues like kindness, sharing, resolving conflicts, and other things relevant to young kids. I recall reading that Michelle Obama was once on the show, but so were Hillary Clinton and Barbara and Laura Bush when they were first ladies so I don't see any agenda there.
do you have any specific examples in mind?

It's liberal because the first step in conflict resolution isn't all out war.
