People are tired of rules and tired of having to pay lip service to decorum. They want to stop having to watch what they say and think and just get crazy.

Trump's campaign is giving people permission to do just that. It's hard to say this word in conjunction with such a sexually unappealing person, but his message is a powerful aphrodisiac. Fuck everything, fuck everyone. Fuck immigrants and fuck their filthy lice-ridden kids. And fuck you if you don't like me saying so.

Those of us who think polls and primaries and debates are any match for that are pretty naive. America has been trending stupid for a long time. Now the stupid wants out of its cage, and Trump is urging it on. There are a lot of ways this can go wrong, no matter who wins in 2016.

I was hoping that would help most normal people to turn away from him, but instead it seems to be just egging on the worst. "The stupid" is taking over. I note that the article identifies the stupid with the use of profanity ('nuff said). It seeps now into TV advertising - old ladies leering at a car salesman and speaking "yoof" - i.e. ignorantly. Dear old Nationwide insurance extolling the virtues of small children smashing cell phones in petulant anger. And as to media programming - crude, childish and very stupid are the order of the day from "reality" Kardashian-Honey-Boo-Boo-Gypsy This and That through American Dad and Breaking Bad, the theme is to lower standards to around the ankles while standing in mud.

Really, while "stupid" has its place in all this, I really do believe that "vulgar" is the close concomitant. And millions see nothing wrong with it at all.

Donald Trump is a shameless liar who thinks the American people are idiots and fools -- and not without good reason. He has lately taken to trump-eting at his campaign rallies how his "favorite book" is the Bible, yet when asked to identify anything in it that he finds meaningful to him, that question is hilariously just "too personal" (as if ANYTHING could be "too personal" for this self-obsessed cartoon):



Trump's pandering fabrication frankly mocks religious faith and makes his evangelical supporters into hypocrites.

But I say keep him in the race as long as possible; the damage he's doing to the GOP is incalculable, and highly entertaining. At some point, even Republicans will get sick of being taken for fools and the Trump Show will be canceled for lack of ratings. But if this farce lasts past January I will be mightily surprised -- and probably very pleased.

I don't think Trump is important to the election. I think hes just a sideshow to keep the mouthbreathing racist faction of the GOP amused (roughly 28% of their voters by the latest polls) and he provides something for the eventual candidate to react against to try to pull in some Asian/Hispanic/Other Immigrant votes. "I'M not the anti-immigrant that's Trump!" They can't win without picking up minority votes and they don't have the balls to openly reject the bigotry that nearly a third of their party embraces.

They don't actually have to play a double game like that. The hardshell racist-gun nut voters will never vote for a Democrat. They own those votes forever.

I was going to start a thread about that "rear end sales event " ad...

Most people probably look at that ad as "cute"...(which was my reaction...)

But could you imagine the reaction, if the sex of the old farts and the sales rep were reversed?

Three dirty old men ogling a young saleswoman's posterior and making jokes about how "their engine" was getting "turbo charged"?

The "misogynist" indignation and outrage would light up cable news and social media like a Christmas tree...

That commercial would have been run exactly once before Volkswagen would have pulled it, apologized for it, and fired somebody....
