....are everywhere around here.

I saw about 20 of them in a field yesterday while going to feed my sons dogs.

how is the turkey population in your neck of the woods?

coyotes?

other wildlife that was not around when you were a kid?

tonnes of groundhogs around too. they were virtually non existent here in the 70 s and 80 s.....

on the down side, all the bobwhites are gone , mostly. I know where some are, but I ain t tellin'....

I haven t heard a whip-o-will in many years.....

haven seen or heard a woodcock do it s sky dance since my son was an infant, 24 yrs ago, but I m not in prime woodcock habitat either...

Wild Turkeys were introduced to Calif. by hunters and have continued to multiply and spread across the state. Minor pests at the moment.

Wild pigs (also introduced but further back) have been a nuisance species for decades now. They are so efficient and finding and rooting up acorns that no new oak trees will grow where there are established wild pigs. They're very destructive in other ways too, they tear up sod in meadows so that the topsoil all washes away in the rain. Anyone killing a wild pig is doing the lord's work.

Coyotes are doing well everywhere.

Cougars are multiplying and pushing into suburban areas up and down the state. Mostly eating pets but they've killed a few people. They harvest humans very sustainably and seem to prefer the leaner meat on runners, hikers and mountain bikers.

Since in all likelihood a disproportionate number of these are likely to be liberal familiaris , (one of California's largest nuisance species) this is a herd culling of which I approve...

Turkey and deer are seen in places on LI when none were back in the 70's and 80's. Turkeys have not reached "pest" proportions yet but the deer have. Of course the anti-hunters don't want us to harvest some but they are the first to complain about their flower beds being eaten.

I remember 20 years ago or so, getting stalked by a few cougars. I was caught more than a few times, fortunately, those cougars practiced catch and release back then. We may be talking about something different, now that I think about it...

I thought the old T Birds had a 350 cu in engine; pretty good size for the time and a 2 seater.
