Mike Huckabee: Obama pretends to be a Christian
Washington (CNN)Mike Huckabee suggested President Barack Obama "pretends to be" a Christian in knocking the President's handling of Pope Francis' first visit to the U.S.
Huckabee's a loon - but he's sure to be adored by other evangelical loonies for making this statement. The irony is that most of his core religious beliefs are likely contrary to Catholic doctrine.
What a mess this is all becoming; we shouldn't be discussing religion AT ALL! Let's discuss economic disparity, criminal justice reform, the student loan debt crisis, the corrupting influence of campaign finance post-Citizens United.
The Republican clown car sideshow is making me truly ill.

"He can't be a good Christian - he married a black woman. Didn't he?"
Trump talking point #1734.2
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
bsg--you're absolutely right. And FWIW, is it somehow not Christian to invite people of differing beliefs to the table to discuss issues. The pope doesn't seem to think so--I wonder why Huckabee does?
I know some people who believe they are and pretend to be. One meaning of 'pretend' is 'to lay claim to ...' be something
Such people believe they are Christian and they lay their claim to that by attending church without fail - as if that's the proof and meaning of faith
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
believes he's a Christian and pretends to be and then says he is
Kinda confusing, huh?
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
The hypocrisy is astounding; Huckabee criticizes President Obama for including persons in the ceremony welcoming the Pope whose Christian beliefs are at odds with his, while Huckabee's own beliefs are at odds with the Pope's. Goose, gander - no? It's pretty simple: Fuckabee's an ass.

You mean because Huckabee is a protestant and the Pope is (allegedly) a Roman catholic - and because Huckabee doesn't believe that the Pope is Christ's vicar on earth and that Roman teachings that all protestants are going to hell (slightly modified these days to "we kinda think so anyway, maybe") - and because Obama and the Pope sat around with... who, some Moslems? Ba'hais? I don't even know... that means Shuckabee is a hypocrite?
It all sounds very stupid - not you BSG- the huckster - but I'm not sure I detect the hypocrisy. Unless you mean that Obama shouldn't be meeting the Pope at all, which would be fine with me.
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Huckabee criticizes Obama for disrespecting the Pope by having a pro-choice nun and a lesbian pastor, etc. at the WH ceremony welcoming the Pope - but that's Obama's way of showing his respect for a range of religious (in this case Christian) beliefs. People who are Christian and pro choice or Christian and homosexual do not consider themselves any less Christian.
Huckabee's own beliefs are at odds with much of Catholic doctrine, thus he also by extension 'disrespects' the Pope - but he's not 'pretending to be Christian,' he's The Real Thing.
It's a nonsensical attack on the President, meant to feed into the fervor of the idiocracy exemplified by Trump's supporters who claim the President is Muslim. Huckabee wants some of their attention so uses the Pope's visit and Obama's diverse guests at the welcoming ceremony as a basis to essentially infer, again, that he's not really Christian.
Hypocrisy.
Did that make better sense?
