That one of the wooden tubs appears to be a purposeful depiction of a victim of the Japanese whaling industry is perhaps not a coincidence. Do you think the artist intended a comment upon the need for conservation?

My wife has caused me to suffer an intermittent addiction to HGTV and some of the bathroom refurb ideas are things I'd like to incorporate at home. Unfortunately in a 60s ranch there is precious little room, so I understand rubato getting some pro help. I was thinking about at least turning one of those awful triangular sort-of based showers into a custom rectangle. Not sure the knees will cooperate.

Best of luck on the build, rube. Careful how you sit down on that bidet!

if we cut down all the redwoods and ancient cedars left in the world....

...well the amazon rainforest still has a lot of hardwood left that would work....

...and I m sure that there are few ancient teak trees left somewhere....

and if we cut down the few knarled , often attacked, but still undead ancient oaks in Europe and Britain...

pretty tubs for everyone!!!!!

Anytime we start on a new enterprise there is the range of possible goals before us.

1. Functional.

2. Functional and aesthetic.

3. Something that is beautiful and surprising so that people laugh. (as well as being Functional and Aesthetic).

The last is more difficult.

So I think we're shooting for #2 but keeping #3 in mind in case we think of something good.

No dear Aspergers boy, a "shit bomb" would be an unwarranted or untrue observation.

Like someone posting "excessive affluence is never pretty" about a group of women protesting about a ban on breast feeding. :D

Claiming that someone boasting about wasting money on pretty shower lights shows "excessive affluence is never pretty," is smack bang on subject.

Life is short. It can be filled with wonder and interest or it can be filled with mean shit like you. You get to choose.

I've used some very nice outhouses, living as I do on the west coast among hippies. One of them had no front or back walls which was a little drafty when the snow fell but beautiful. Another, more engineered outhouse had a view of the N. California coast and a handy pail of wood ash to cover the pile with and keep down the smells.

Just the practicalities of life.

If you choose to dish it out, you open yourself up to getting it back. There's a lesson to be learned by you there. But with your Aspergers I suppose that's a lost cause

We've been seriously considering getting one of these for the bathroom in the master bedroom...(they're really not all that expensive, and I could get it installed pretty cheaply)

Personally I don't care about the color coded temperature stuff, (Lady Kelly likes that) but I really do like the idea of having a shower that comes directly down on you like standing in a rainstorm or under a waterfall, rather than one coming at you from an angle...

Another 'definite' is a heated floor. The hardware itself is dirt cheap but you have to install it when you put in the flooring. Nice on the feet and provides useful space heating for that part of the house in the winter months. (although this is not a cold climate).

You can always put in a junction pipe and run a hand-held Klingon remover in addition to a straight down showerhead. In fact, it's like having a really forceful bidet in the shower space....

And LJ, those kind of waterfall showerheads have been available for years (without the lights). You do have to be careful about the distance of the pipe from the wall - you can get some serious deflection if the showerhead is too heavy for the length... of pipe... from the wall.

We need to impose a carbon tax on that toilet composter.

We're putting one shower head straight down from the cieling and one on the wall, per normal. Mi esposa is dead against the hand-held and I'm not that enthusiastic.

One area of great uncertainty is lighting. There are some general choices already made, all LED for one, some type of strip lighting above and/ or alongside the mirror, the architect said we should position light(s) to shine into the linen closet. Other than that it is a deep mystery. I've never done any lighting design other than hanging a drop light when working on a car or in a crawl space.

And the way fixtures are priced you can spend every bit as much as you want on those things. Wow. With cars, the range from inexpensive functional to fabulous is roughly 3-4x. With lighting they're just getting started at 4x.
