Statement in response to the conduct of six EDP employees in Rome over the weekend (29 September 2015)

“EDP is exceptionally disappointed in the behaviour of some of our team in Italy over the weekend and it is something we are taking extremely seriously. The six individuals had been part of a group of just under 70 EDP employees who had attended a corporate event in Rome on Friday evening. Following the conclusion of this event, everyone was able to spend their free time in Rome over the weekend. EDP very much regrets any offence that has been caused, and we are considering the appropriate disciplinary action.”

A company director of a top environmental firm and five other Britons have been charged with obscenity in Rome after they were filmed frolicking naked in one of the city's historic fountains.



Exclusive footage of the co-workers, including two women, shows them taking a dawn skinny-dip in the fountain of the Naiads, yesterday morning.

A witness described the scene as 'hugely entertaining' and said it 'looked like an orgy in Ancient Rome'.

The six now face trial for an obscene act in a public place, an offence which carries up to three years in prison in Italy.

The tourists, who work with Cirencester-based green development firm Environmental Dimension Partnership, had been drinking heavily as they celebrated their last night in Rome, according to witnesses.

The group allegedly included EDP director Ben Rosedale, 39, who is listed as living with his wife Emily, 36, in a £410,000 three-bed cottage in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

They had been staying for the weekend at the grand Hotel Quirinale, which costs around 200 Euros a night and just a stone's throw from the famed fountains in Piazza Repubblica.

As the night's festivities came to a head the men stripped completely naked and waded into the water, followed by their slightly more restrained female colleagues, who kept some of their underwear on.



The exclusive footage shows the co-workers prancing around the fountains, which contain knee-deep water on two levels, laughing and joking as they splash each other.

One witness said: 'It looked like an orgy in Ancient Rome. They were completely naked, the men, with their genitals on show, and the women were just running around topless. One of them was very young and blonde – quite attractive.'



Another bystander who worked in the area said: 'They were there for about half-an-hour singing and shouting. At first there was hardly anyone around but by the time the police came there was a crowd of people filming them and taking pictures.'

Yeah, not really seeing why this is any kind of "news" story. People on a business trip got drunk, did something potentially embarrassing (depending on your level of prudishness). So what?
