But did it win him any votes?

Agreed mate.
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

By the way, if you want a real laugh, read about the the Arianism debate at the Council of Nice. No, Jesus proceeds from the father, no he is part of the father, no he is one in being with the father, no the father made him, no he is begotten of the father--all debated by people whose languages didn't even draw those distinctions in their words.

Re: But did it win him any votes?
One wonders they managed to debate at all then, Big RR.
"Jesus is the thingy and not the whatsit"
"You cur! Clearly the whatsit is the entire point of the thingy"
"No, it's the gubbins I tell you - the whatsit is nothing and the thingy is just one of those doo-dads"
and so on
PS I also thought of the sandal. Life of Brian is a great favourite

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: But did it win him any votes?
Exactly; some beleieved begotten and created were the same thing, others did not. But they fought anyway, so that the Nicene creed can say "begotten, not made, one in being with the father" (or "genitum non factum, consubstantialem Patri"), not to mention "god from god, light from light, true god from true god" ("Deum de Deo, Lumen de Lumine, Deum verum de Deo vero")--sometimes I think I've sung too many masses

Goat is Halal and Kosher. Drinking blood is outside the rules but modern "Christians" eat pigs and they're further outside the rules. I think its the use of the word "sacrifice" that get's peoples goat.
