Suck it up Lord Jim. I do. Been working on the duaghters house, installing floors, moldings, new toilet..... Not very strenuous work but i am in positions that i am not normally in (aka sitting on my ass). The stiffness I get. I'm thinking of enrolling in a yoga class. My strength is pretty good (for soemone my age :nana ) just my muscles tighten up a lot.
Naaaaa
I'll lay down on my couch and not move instead.

Yoga is great for flexibility, oldr, and you might find the practice aids in your sobriety as well; it's very centering.

My best advice to get relief and "speed" the process is to find a chiropractor who practices ART (active release therapy, a type of myofascial massage and manipulation). And who may also give the tendon a little shock treatment. Those techniques all help stimulate blood flow and healing to the area.
I'm going to look into that Guin...

At this point I'd give a witch doctor with a set of rattles a shot...

Hey, what could it hurt? 8-)

I hate to admit this...

But I let the Queen Mum's acupuncturist stick one needle in my calf and one in my heel, and the pain is gone...

And I can walk around on it like it never happened...

I thought maybe there was some sort of nerve stimulation involvement there, that would make this temporary...

But it's been three days with absolutely no pain...

I was looking for some sort of scientific explanation... ("acupuncture"...please...you've got to be kidding...)

But the explanation can't be that I had some sort of "psychosomatic" belief that it would work, and therefore it "worked"...

Because I was absolutely convinced it wouldn't work, and that it was a complete waste of my time...

(I was just humoring my MIL..)

And yet it did work... :?

My wife claimed it cured her Bell's palsy and my cousin claimed it helped him quit smoking ( though he later started again) From all the stories if heard I'd put acupuncture in the same category as chiropractic. It works in the hands of a skilled practitioner but the field is rife with quackery.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

I've used acupuncture, after also being very skeptical. I helped me with sleeping issues and chronic shoulder pain. I don't generally recommend it, its not for everyone and you do indeed need to find a skilled and trained practitioner.

I'm planning to look into acupuncture for migraine relief when I return to the east coast where I can find a skilled practitioner; I have friends who swear by it as having cured them of migraines, so it's worth a try.

don t forget sneezing...

nothing brings fear to the hearts of men like the tell tale signs of an oncoming sneeze....

especially in the shower. it must be the slope of the floor or something.

I once cared for a woman who broke her back sneezing. I would say she had bone density issues but she was pretty good sized.

Don't try and hold in a sneeze either. That will kill you (or at least soil your undies).

My only aging problem (I'm 63) has been having to pee often.

It sometimes seems life it's every 5 minutes.

On the plus side, I NEVER wake up in the middle of the night having to urinate.

Haven't SEEN A DOCTOR IN YEARS (I rarely if ever get sick).

If I quit smoking I'd probably be immortal!

The problem with those multitasking skills is that the elderly have no choice but to do all of those things simultaneously.

AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE...

Post by RayThom »

... I'm now fully convinced that birth is the genesis of waning health, and subsequent old age problems. That's me, never short on empathy and insight.

With my ongoing health issues I'm advised that exercise is the best way to combat my frequent and often overwhelming aches and pains. OK, so I go to the "Y" a few times a week to work through the my ills. Usually various cardio and strength machines, the exercise pool, and I make sure I park my car at the farthest spot in the lot just for the walk. No "Iron Man" shit, just healthy, constant motion to stretch out all the body parts that work best when stretched out. After a few hours of feeling the burn I leave all pumped and invigorated.

The next day, however, I'm trying to sort out the difference from my new pain as compared to my old pain. And, silly me, I allow this cycle to continue thinking there must be some benefit derived. Through it all, my satisfaction comes from knowing those snot-nosed, under forty punks, who scoff and look askance at me while going through my routines are rapidly becoming me. They're just too self absorbed to realize it. Ah, ha, gotcha'.

Life... it's a beautiful thing, and I'm pretty sure it beats the alternative.
