That's a valid point...

Without question, with an operation of this size, there had to be a significant number of people, who while not directly or even indirectly involved, had at least some knowledge of something "being up"...

And apparently none of those people alerted French authorities...

That goes again to the significant difference between the US and European experience in dealing with integrating the Muslim population into the larger society...(which of course is a whole different topic...)

In the US, numerous terrorist attacks have been thwarted because members of the Muslim community have come forward to provide information to law enforcement...

For the most part, that simply doesn't happen in Europe...

There's a reason that we (with a population of 330 million) only have a couple of hundred join the ISIS fighters, while Europe has had many thousands...

It goes to the history and nature of our country...our national ethos...

We are a nation of immigrants; and the vast overwhelming majority of people who come to this country do so because they want to become a part of that experience...

That is not the experience of Europe...

European nations are dealing uncomfortably with immigration because they are not set up for it...

They have no history or experience related to it...

For them, it's only an experience that they've had to deal with in the process of "de-colonialization" over the past fifty or sixty years....

Very different historical process...

But all of that philosophical, sociological, and historical analysis having been said, it does nothing to excuse the savagery and butchery of what took place in Paris last night...

The comments making fun of France and the French are ignorant and mean-spirited.

Every terrorism expert on CNN last night talked about how good the French police and French security are, and how they have as much experience as anyone in dealing with this kind of situation. And still, hundreds are dead.

I'm sure *we* will respond. But some of us have been saying all along (my Swede has been beating this drum for a while now) this is as much a Euro problem and the Euros needs to get engaged. Not how I would want them to be engaged, but it's past time for them to step up.
