What is everyone doing?
Re: What is everyone doing?
babysitting while my son and his girlfriend work. they are gonna supply the turkey. holly volunteered to cook (uh oh...). she cooked last year s dinner. her first time cooking thanksgiving. not bad.
i ll probable make some wet cornbread and maybe try to whip up a batch of old fashioned Hershey s hard fudge. (success is not guaranteed).
i guess i ll invite my mom, but she may have other plans. hopefully i ll see my sister and her family sometime during the holidays, probably not thanksgiving day tho.
i miss the bushel baskets of stuff that the steel shop used to give us. i m down to my last two bushel baskets. they are great for crabbing trips.
i didn t even go crabbing this year, maybe once. holly developed an allergy to crabs and that kinda took the fun out of it for me. i m not gonna go bend down 100 times just for myself. half the fun was making her happy by getting her her favorite food.
GROG LIKE HOLLY. GROG CATCH WATER BUG FOR HOLLY. HOLLY LIKE GROG. GROG HAPPY .
i hope every one here has something good going on over the holidays, whether you think that they are holy or not.
love you guys (yes, even you )
thanks for letting me hang out with you

Re: What is everyone doing?
We're hosting at our house again this year. It is the remnant of a group who have been having t-day dinner together since the early 1980s and which I joined in 1990. Some have died and some have moved away. For two years we had it in Sacramento following some of the participants who had moved there. They later moved to Seattle and we said "oh fuck it that just too far". So unless they are coming down we won't see them this year.
I'll be cleaning carpets and ironing table linen this week and doing other useful and reformative tasks and my sweetie will be salting the bird and making other preparations. Last year we discovered that a pair of green herons had taken up residence at the local duck pond during the traditional walk in-between the dinner and dessert courses. I've seen the male and female there alternately since then. Cut little dickenses.

What is this "Thanksgiving with no drama" of which you speak?I'll go to my sister's house.......her ex-husband will be there......no drama......
ETA:
Actually, when I was growing up back East, we never had drama at Thanksgiving...
It was a fairly passive affair...

You know what these scientific types are like at home....

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

I like cleaning carpets. I understand how solubility and extraction works so I've come up with some improvements which leave the carpet cleaner, and it dries faster. One tip: when it comes to soap/detergents 'just enough' is a lot better than 'too much'. I have ironed my own shirts since I was 14. And I like having friends over for Thanksgiving so it is a pleasure to get things ready for them.
We've lined up help to chop brussels sprouts and peel potatos the morning of. Another friend is the gravy specialist. Yet another couple are bringing pies and (by their tradition) bring an extraordinary bottle of champagne and a few of red.
I'll sweep the driveway and hardscape and do a little light yard cleanup and I still have bulbs to plant in containers.

Have you never heard of non-iron shirts?I have ironed my own shirts since I was 14.
I have worn them for decades?
Ironing is for old women, anyway!

Re: What is everyone doing?
Lady Kelly is 44, (and the mother of 2 children) and Little Sister is 36 (and also the mother of 2 children) what is it with this Smothers Brothers "Mom always liked you best" competition...
Two middle aged women acting like friggin teenaged sisters arguing about things like, "you borrowed my shoes, where are they? where's the coat I lent you?"
This is totally alien to me...
For starters, men do not exchange shoes with other men...or other pieces of clothing...it just doesn't happen...
"Hey I just bought a new suit! Why don't you try it on!"
That never happens...
So I can't even begin to relate to the "issues" involved here...
ETA:
I just looked in our walk in closet...
Lady Kelly has 30-40 pairs of shoes...
She's like a junior Imelda Marcos....
I have six pairs of shoes...(and I don't share them with anyone)
Oh well...

Re: What is everyone doing?
Well, there was that time playing "Pass Out" when we'd homemade a card with the penalty of "exchange underwear with the person on your left" and Mick made the mistake of sitting to my left after he'd made his weaving, stumbling path back from a bathroom break....

I'm sure you look very smart in your nylon shirts and sansabelt slacks.dales wrote:Have you never heard of non-iron shirts?I have ironed my own shirts since I was 14.

Good quality cotton shirts occasonally need a touch of the iron.

Re: What is everyone doing?
yeah, the iron is a bit rough on my shirts. I prefer my pocket steamer and my marble rolling pin. the cotton positively squeals with delight when I press my pin firmly onto my Corinthian granite countertop and bend its supple weave to my will....

As a matter of fact I'd look great in anything I choose to wear.I'm sure you look very smart in your nylon shirts and sansabelt slacks.

I wear Levis and a quick press right out of the dryer is all that they need.
My shirts are cotton blends (with really obnoxious Hawaiian motifs) they hang really loose over my German semi-auto pistol!

You'll excuse me if I don't use my imagination on that...As a matter of fact I'd look great in anything I choose to wear.
We own an iron, and Kelly uses it from time to time to do the kind of "touch up" that rube refers to, but anything I own (dress shirts, slacks, etc.) that needs to be ironed goes to the dry cleaners...

...unless you have a gut, I used to have a beer belly but wasn t overweight.
if you have a bit of a gut, then the joke was still a bit funny.
I am trying to help rube out here, he doesn t really "get" humour, but he is trying....
