A 19-year-old woman accused of stealing a hard-cider truck from Portland was hospitalized after she crashed the truck into a barn following a high-speed police chase Tuesday.
Nicole Dyment, 19, of the Oxford County town of Canton, was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford for possible head injuries after she crashed a truck emblazoned with the logo for Angry Orchard hard cider into a barn on Parsonsfield Road in Limerick, according to York County Sheriff William King.
The truck was reported stolen from the 7-Eleven at 704 Congress St. in Portland at 11 a.m.
At 11:38 a.m., a witness reported the truck weaving from side to side and going onto the shoulder as it passed Waterboro Elementary School on Route 5 in Waterboro.
Deputy Shawn Sanborn spotted the truck near the Lakeside Market and saw it pass several cars in a no-passing zone, King said.
Sanborn chased the vehicle for about 13 miles at speeds reaching 65 mph before the driver of the truck lost control and crashed into a barn in Limerick, spilling many cases of alcohol, King said.
The building is in danger of collapsing as a result of the crash, he said.
Dyment appeared intoxicated, he said.
Deputies plan to charge her with drunken driving, driving to endanger, failure to stop for a police officer and driving without a license.
Route 160 was closed in the afternoon as authorities tried to remove the truck from the barn, he said.
