Cruz tries to pry the 'crazy' vote from Trumpy
Re: Cruz tries to pry the 'crazy' vote from Trumpy
or we could just require ID to vote. much simpler.
come on RR, do you really think that that is unreasonable?
i m still for a national holiday on voting day and paper ballots. massive fraud by computer is just too easy and tempting.
early voting and not having to make any effort or offer any ID to vote is just asking for fraud.

Require ID to register, require ID to vote, and punish vote fraud with death. Eliminate mail-in ballots completely except for military members.

Re: Cruz tries to pry the 'crazy' vote from Trumpy
death may be a little harsh, jarl.
5yrs mandatory with no early release should be enough of a deterrent

Re: Cruz tries to pry the 'crazy' vote from Trumpy
Nope. Vote fraud is a crime against the nation on par with treason.

Re: Cruz tries to pry the 'crazy' vote from Trumpy
Voter Fraud = Treason?
Not even close.
But I don't understand the argument against voter ID. Is it unconstitutional to ask someone to prove who they are before exercising their right to vote?

No it's just mean to potential democrats

I can tell you that between the 5 election staff in my county, they know ALL of the registered voters. There are lots of towns like that in this country, still.

Understood bsg... but somehow I don't think that illegal aliens registering and voting is a problem in Futtbuck, IA where there are only 152 registered voters. Think big city.

I must say Big RR, you must live in a very different voting precinct than I live in, (or have ever lived in)Big RR wrote:True, but then in our society our challengers can get up to date lists of house sales, tenancies in apartments, etc. and have it at their fingertips, as well as information from other party members/supporters in the precincts, so they can get quite a bit of information they can use.
At my precinct, the party reps who are on hand to "monitor" the process (and theoretically issue challenges) aren't Harold Finch-type internet whizzes carefully scanning the web for detailed background information on each voter...
They tend to be retired folks who spend most of their time reading, drinking coffee, and chatting with their friends who come in...
And if they were to challenge someone who was on the registration list as not being a US citizen, exactly how would they go about proving that? I don't believe they have the right to demand a birth certificate...

that small town thing about knowing everyone was true here 20 yrs ago.
no longer, too many Hispanics and middle easterners have flooded the area. they are either transient or secretive.
maybe we should station the army at the northern border, then order them to do a slow march south, driving all illegals before them.
then we can deport everyone who is not a citizen or permanent legal resident.
our universities need to educate americans first, all these rich foreigners are one of the reasons that the cost of college has skyrocketed.
(in my best paki sing song....)
yes please, I would like to be majoring in nuclear engineering, with minors in chemistry and biology. I don t want to be putting all my eggs into one basket. who is knowing what the favored method of jihad will be in 10 yrs? a well rounded islamist is a wise islamist....
americans are so generous, I will be taking many wives from here . blondes sell very well in mecca

ok meade, I took your comments to heart.
I will be advocating radical ideas from now on, but that doesn t mean that I believe in them.
just showing the what the left is driving us to.
they are driving people to trump.
the gun control crowd has even caused me to consider trump as a scary, but viable, alternative. nothing else would have done it, but the push against free speech and the 2nd amend. has caused me to consider this megalomaniac.
I would even consider Bernie sanders right now.
if it comes down to bush-Clinton, I hope that trump goes third party. I will support him in that instance.
every spare dime I have is going into guns and ammo.
meade, those draconian laws you feared are on the horizon. just so you know, ammo has been scarce, it is harder to get than guns are right now, so stock up

...and I have never been a gun nut. I liked my 20 ga shotgun for hunting and my 22 for general use.
now that I feel that the right to bear arms is threatened I want every thing that I can carry without throwing my back out.
and I am telling everyone to stock up. I am I am

Please refer back to Sue's excellent posts on this subject from the last time. I can't go back, it will just make me furious with you people all over again.
And Jarl, cut the crap. Talk about unconstitutional. Maybe you should check out the 8th amendment, too. You know they all work together. The 5th and the 14th are also pretty crucial to this and similar questions.

I have voted in every election since I turned 18 (1976) and have never seen anyone ever challenge a voter. i have seen voters challenge the pollsters for not having thier name on the books.
As LJ said, the people running the polling place are usually old ladies with a few old men around too.

I enjoy voting because it makes me feel young and healthy... in comparison to the old dears checking names on the registers.

The people checking names at the local polling place are neighbors. I usually recognize one or more.
We are balancing the certain harm of requiring people to have more ID than they do now against zero evidence that it does any good. And who was supposed to be against excessive government regulation?
Oh, us liberals after all.

Well guess what, it happens.oldr_n_wsr wrote:I have voted in every election since I turned 18 (1976) and have never seen anyone ever challenge a voter. i have seen voters challenge the pollsters for not having thier name on the books.

In the last two (or has it been three now) presidential elections and primaries (including primaries in MA, RI and NH), I have been a volunteer lawyer providing voter protection. I stand in the background away from the lines of voters and the ballot boxes, and I wait until a polling place volunteer calls me over to help if there is an issue with a voter - either being listed/registered/eligible. The voter usually gets to cast a provisional ballot so they can actually if it turns out there is not problem, while we work on that technical issue.
It does not happen a lot. It happens more in certain areas of the country (want to guess where)? But its incredibly important to preserve the right to vote.
So no, you'd probably never see me, or any other lawyer working on that problem. But maybe. And if you were turned away from voting, wouldn't you want to have someone to help you figure it out?
