To be fair, some women were involved in the same conversation, not just men. But you are right, she is a superb athlete and is rightly being recognized for that reason.

I hope your daughters are never subjected to such derision and scorn
Now just a cotton pickin' minute...

Certainly something like this:
woulda looked better if they had thrown that old tarp, behind the throne, over her....
or this:
... and the other thigh?
Would qualify as scorn and/or derision but I certainly didn't engage in that....

Two posters, (both women btw) had posted very different speculations about her weight...

All I did, was to follow up those posts by finding what I thought would be a fairly authoritative source (wimbledon.com, which has height and weight stats for all major players, male and female) and posting the numbers that were there.

I don't see how that in any way can be characterized as "derision and scorn"...

JMO but I think that the guys weren't that bad in this thread. They are certainly entitled to say she's not their type.

I hope your daughters are never subjected to such derision and scorn for being unapologetically confident in themselves, but I doubt it, given the long history of how men treat women in this world. It's something you might want to think about.
I agree! If you don't want your daughters weight and clothing, (or lack of,) to be discussed, then down with this sort of thing!!!

I'm still waiting to hear how puny you are, RayThom. Even if she weighs more than 155 (and I wouldn't think a lot more, and I'm probably a better judge of women's weights than you), I can't see how she outweighs you by a LOT? :shrug

Oh, Guin.... I did not post pictures of the Greatest Athlete of All Time dressed like a dog's dinner, flashing her body all over the place (Serena, not Ruth).

Nor did I force her at gunpoint to publicize her poor taste in clothes and expose her acres of flesh to the media.

She's the one drawing attention to her off-court appearance, so why should the conversation be restricted to what happens on the tennis court?

As to my daughter, fortunately, she has better taste. I hope to mercy she never dresses like that. It wouldn't be a pretty sight (any more than me in a Speedo or anything less than a full cover-up, come to think of it :ok ).

And supposedly she's about 20lb lighter than her sister.... oh, riiiiiiight!

It's just funny that any of you would decry her weight; none of us could keep up with her fitness regime without dropping dead, methinks. ;)

I'm not decrying her weight - she can weight as much or as little as she wants and yep, could run rings around me - might take a while, considering my width.

I object to seeing it

agreed.

No one who wins tennis championships has a 'weight' problem. She is a dominating athlete and has the physique and moves to prove it. Wimbledon, the US Open, French Open, and Australian Open are selections processes for "best tennis body" and she has proven 21 times over that she has the best tennis body vs 5 for any other active player (Sharapova) and she is 17-2 head to head.

Serena is the way "the best" looks in tennis.

OK... as of 12/15/15:
According to the electronic scale at the Haverford YMCA I weighed in at 164 pounds of rippling manhood. at 6' 0" that makes my BMI out to be 22.2. And my Waist(34")-to-Height(72") Ratio is: 47.22.

Some sites on the interweb state "Serena Williams's weight has fluctuated over the years between 170-200 lbs." I tend to believe these indicators more than the weight Williams, herself, tends to bandy about.

Regardless, I'm disheartened to see such a fine athlete needing to showcase her sports accomplishments using a series of lingerie photos to do it. What kind of role model is Serena trying to promote anyway... Drakes hot booty mama, or tennis dominator?

ok, she is the greatest female player of all time. granted.

now I didn t criticize her weight, but I weigh 150 and have shrunk to 5-9 and she is purty darned close to 2oo pounds, if not over. I don t care, but bigsky said she was 150. no way.

now as far as the tarp..., I think that she is ugly and tacky to the extreme. she is ugly because she is so tacky.

and would tell my daughter to close her damned legs of get off of that stupid throne. she ain t no damned princess.....

Live and let live, I say.
If she wants to dress and be photographed wearing those clothes, that's her choice.
She is an incredible athlete, and worked for her accomplishments. More power to her.

Her dress is no more revealing than dozens that have been worn over the years at Oscars, Grammy Awards, etc.

I really love the lace shorts - they're lovely! It's a lovely dress and looks great on her as it would on any number of beautiful women in sport or other entertainment.

I agree with you, oldr. What I object to is having other people tell me how I'm supposed to react when confronted with such a public display.

Fifthly, did anyone say she had a weight "problem"? I don't think so. RayThom has the right of it, IMO.

And secondly, maybe that outfit would look good on any number of beautiful women. We'll never know

I will partially retract the statement; not every famous woman is showing as much as possible and then some.  But TV/movie celebs, so-called "fashionistas", pop singers, and yes, sports figures all seem to be engaging in a campaign of one-upsmanship — "how bare do you dare?" — until someone will end up walking the red carpet stark naked.  And unless you're someone like Gypsy Rose Lee, Linda Lovelace, or Ron Jeremy — who made their reputation by showing everything they had — there is no need for it.

In certain clothes, a tall muscular woman will look the same as Caitlyn Jenner would look in them.
