Christmas Eve is projected to be as warm as 72˚F in the city due to an influx of warm-air traveling east from the Gulf of Mexico due to El Niño, which inhibits arctic air from traveling south to the United States.

Christmas Day might cool down a slight bit with projected temperatures of 65˚F.

New York will be even warmer than cities like Los Angeles (56˚F), Los Vegas (47˚F), and San Diego (57˚F) on Christmas day.

So El Niño is bringing us the rain and snow pack that we need, and it's bringing you barbecue weather in December...

What's not to like? :ok

Winter is not even two days old. It's rare if there is snow on the ground this time of year here on Long Island. The amount of acorns the oaks gave off this year indicate some severe cold andsnow coming our way. Trust the acorns. And the wolly caterpillars. A bunch camped out in my garage.

True, but it's just as rare for temperatures to be in the high 60s low 70s this time of year.

I hope we do get a winter, but I'll wait and see, wooly caterpillars notwithstanding.

eta: And for those who prefer the homespun wisdom and "science" of the Farmers Almanac, here's their forecast for December in the New England/Middle Atlantic region:

DECEMBER 2015: temperature 37.5° (3° below avg. north, avg. south); precipitation 4" (1" above avg.); Dec 1-5: Snowy periods, cold north; showers, mild south; Dec 6-9: Rain and snow showers, cold; Dec 10-13: Rain to snow, then sunny, mild; Dec 14-19: Heavy snow north, showers south; Dec 20-23: Sunny, cold; Dec 24-27: Snowstorm, then sunny, cold; Dec 28-31: Rainy, mild.

So far no snow or below average temperatures, and I doubt we'll see any snow before the end of the year. :shrug

I don't generally trust things that get mooshed under my bike wheels while I'm riding down the road.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

How about acorns?
I had a bumper crop this year and they started falling in august. Anytime I saw that happening, it was a hard winter.

The snowmobiles are ready to go. Now I need Mother nature to help out.

I'd like to see a winter oldr; I'm ready to ski and probably will not have time to travel too far. But we'll just have to wait and see.

Just been on a traditional 6 am Xmas eve run to Belconnen Fresh Food markets, to get in the last minute things for our Xmas lunch at Hatch's place tomorrow.

"I'll get the cheese, you get the fish and meat," I said to her indoors.

Choosing cheese I looked up to see Hen doing her best "headless chicken" impression. "I've just had them prep a couple of kilos of ling, a side of salmon, a couple of kilos of prawns. It was only when they bagged it all I realised I don't have my purse with me!! Help!!!"
