Ah, both cruel and inhuman! You conservative, Raygun, RC, tea-party, repugnican, bigot, racist types are all the same. :nana

I accidentally saw 2 seconds of a trailer for 2 Broke Girls and had to take a shower to get the smell of that show out of my hair and skin. It was a regular hot water shower with pumice stone, loofa, face flannel, shampoo, conditioner and two types of body soap - followed by underarm deodorant, body spray and just a hint of lavender oil at each wrist - that did the trick, just about.

Frasier was as funny as haemorrhoids.

I would find your hemorrhoids funny.

Shouldn't you be updating your blog? I long to read of things gone wrong.

Please remember that "review" is being offered by the guy who said he thinks The Godfather is "shite", and weigh his opinion accordingly... :P

Meade:

I'm curious to know what you think of The Benny Hill Show...

Presumably you have total disdain for it, because on the "High Brow Witty Scale" Ol' Benny ain't exactly Noel Coward...

Too true, realise you're dealing with a man of high taste.

Benny Hill, LJ? Low-brow vulgarity. Again, I watched as a child but managed to mature into a sentient human being with values and standards. Hill was not a patch on Morecambe and Wise or The Two Ronnies and they were somewhere below Spike Milligan's Q series and Monty Python (although more accessible)

More recent US comedies that I quite enjoy are Arrested Development and My Name Is Earl - where mocking low-brow becomes an art form. Hmm, it is in both, really. Satire is their strong point and I appreciate satire - when it's not simply cruel

I don't watch sitcoms at all. Last one I tried to watch consistently was cancelled quickly (Better Off Ted), and that was over 5 years ago. They kept bouncing it around the schedule and preempting it, making it hard to follow. I did check out a couple more since but I haven't found any I didn't think were stupid.

I do watch my fair share of procedurals (well, NCIS ones). And a couple other shows I'd rather not admit to. Most shows I like are cancelled after a half season (or a season and a half), so it's hardly worth putting effort into watching. Most good shows are "screwed by the network" with big hiatuses, but mostly because many aren't given a chance. They all think they have to find the next "Lost" and somehow still think a 20 rating is achievable (when a top-rated show today can't even hit 15, and anything over 6 is actually pretty good).

Here are some more sitcoms that were/are funnier than Frasier:

WKRP In Cincinnati, Night Court, Buffalo Bill, Remember WENN, Reno 911!, Modern Family, The Larry Sanders Show, The Odd Couple, (the Randall/Klugman original of course; not the one with Ron Glass, or the female version, or the most recent hideous monstrosity) NewsRadio, Spin City, Parks and Recreation, The Phil Silvers Show...

As I said Frazier wasn't a bad show; it would probably make the upper end of the top fifty on the funniest list; (which ain't bad considering all the sitcoms that have been made over the past 65 years) but nowhere near #1....

I will give you credit for the original Odd Couple but the rest of that is utter crap.

You probably think velveeta is a fine cheese compared to a nice Cheddar.

We just have to stop agreeing like this! Everything on LJ's "comedy" list is dated, ponderous, unfunny and unwatchable. Not a shred of wit or subtlety to be found. He probably thinks a donkey stepping on its own poop is hilarious!*

"Ponderous" is the key word. Oh and lack of wit. Maybe that original Odd Couple - I do kind of remember seeing a bit of it once.

*(Well, only if they make it into a 30 minute sitcom)

You know, that assessment might bother me, were it not coming from someone who considers Leonard Cohen to represent the zenith of musical talent...

A man whose "music" is dated, ponderous, uninteresting and unlistenable...

Like my father used to tell me, "always consider the source"... :fu :nana

One of the "sat " providers dropped ESPN from its basic package and moved it an upgrade ,the only way I would consider "sat " tv again would be ala carte. or commercial free . :ok

I use DISH and they still have ESPN, I think, in the basic. Which did you see drop it because we never, ever use ESPN and I despise paying for it.

Yeah, I'm the only one who thinks The Honeymooners is funny...

That's why the show's been in syndication non-stop for sixty years...

Are you channeling your inner wes? :nana

BTW, what you refer to as "dated" is actually "timeless"...

I bet you don't even think Sid Ceasar's Your Show Of Shows was funny...very "dated"...

It was written by such witless types as Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Mel Tolkin, Carl Reiner, Larry Gelbart and Woody Allen...

Probably not a You Bet Your Life fan either...just a lot of dated humor from an old guy smoking a cigar...
