the state of the union speech...
Re: the state of the union speech...
I thought it was a very good speech; I'm proud of my two votes for President Obama, despite some disappointments from him during his terms of office.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

That's a good one, Joe
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
LJ. DO AS I DID
Take the oath:
"I, (oathee name goes here), promise to never, ever, vote for Barack Hussein Obama II again, regardless of political office, so help me God."
Hey, it worked for me. I felt so liberated, and empowered, afterwards. I am at peace with my fellow man.
God bless Donald J. Trump.

Could you elaborate on that sig? Where does the Bible say that God is in all things?

MGM. MORE BIBLE AMBIGUITY
Here's what I found. You can interpret it as you wish.
King James Bible...Unity in the Body
(Psalm 133:1-3; 1 Corinthians 1:10-17)
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with long suffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father "of all", who is "above all", and "through all", and "in all".

Thanks, Ray. I don't need to interpret it. Just need to observe that because a thing is in me, it doesn't mean that it does not exist apart from me. Intestinal flora, for example. Also magnesium and iron

That's your party's problem, and hopefully you'll get it resolved before it becomes a national problem. The Republicans needs to grow some damn stones.

And welcome to the Democratic party, where we are devotees of class warfare and class envy, and we believe that if you just took enough money out of the pockets of people who have more than you do, and gave it you.....
It would be unicorns and candy canes...
Oh, and the big problem with international Islamicist terrorism, is that we shouldn't call it what it is, and Heavens to Betsy, we don't want to "over-react"...
As our Attorney General said after the San Bernadino Islamist terrorist attack, "What I'm most worried about, are reprisal attacks..."
The Attorney General of the United States...
The person who is ostensibly the boss of the FBI Director...
More worried about "reprisal attacks" then keeping the nation safe from, oh I don't know, terrorism...
You can't make this stuff up...
When the government of the United States behaves in a fashion that is so befuddled and clueless, they play right into the hands of unprincipled demagogues like Trump...

Testicles' Roman equivalent is Scrotumus.

1,800,000 (Islamic "jihadists" worldwide *) ÷ 1,600,000,000 (world muslim population) = 0.0001125
* the LARGEST estimate I could find; the number of Da'esh fighters is of course much lower

Re: the state of the union speech...
Yeah, like our President for one...But some of us cannot make the same distinction with respect to Islamic terrorists and Islam.
yrs,
rubato
He's apparently scared to death that if he acknowledges the existence of Islamist terrorism, it will be the same as condemning all Muslims...
This is a distinction that even GWB was able to navigate successfully, but apparently it is beyond the ability of our current CIC...
ETA:
BTW, I vigorously disagree with Meade on this:
I know too many Muslims personally who do not interpret their religion as requiring violence against "non-believers" to ever believe that the Islamist terrorists are using anything other than a twisted interpretation of the Muslim faith to justify their vile deeds...MajGenl.Meade wrote:...or maybe there's nothing endemic about being Italian that makes "mafia" the logical outcome, whereas Islam...
Between Donald "Ban all Muslims" Trump and Barack "We dare not speak the word Islamist" Obama, there is a huge amount of room to carve out a rational and sensible position...
It's not a choice between being a nativist or a head-in-the-sander...
There are other options...
Like Lindsey Graham's position for example...
There is no political figure in America with a more sound and rational understanding of the problem and the approach we need to take in dealing with it than the Senior Senator from South Carolina...
It's a damn shame he's not going to be President; it's the country's loss...

Re: the state of the union speech...
Disagree as vigorously as you like, LJ. I happen to be convinced by the Q'ran that it's your friends who've altered the faith to fit their needs, in the same way that some Christian denominations have done. It's a blessing that so many Moslems have done so. I do not subscribe to the belief that all Moslems are terrorists or even potential terrorists.
But the fact is that Islam (unlike any other religion) contains the explicit worldview of involuntary hegemony over all other people by means of the sword - convert or die is not a misinterpretation. Unlike the Crusaders, Islamic extremists are not wrong about that.
In this sense, being Italian has no endemic imperative to be a mafioso. Islam contains an imperative for war against the infidel, although the majority of moslems do not practise the logical path of their faith. It's kind of like followers of the Roman church who, in the main, have no real clue about their own religion.
