Screamed out of my warm bed
Screamed out of my warm bed
I was so warm and so toasty this morning under my lovely flannel sheets and warm comforter, snuggled up and blissful but awake and debating a cold trip to the bathroom. We keep the bedroom window open a bit no matter how cold it is. It was about 16F this am. It was about 6:45 am and I was relishing the minutes before the man had to get up and get ready for work.
Suddenly I heard blood curdling screaming that appeared to be coming from my neighbor's master bedroom which is only really yards away. It persisted for a the better part of a minute and stopped.
I was up like a shot. I listened and heard no more. This is not typical for this neighborhood which is generally quiet except for the other neighbor's yappy damned dog. I debated with husband about the best course of action. I decided to go check on the neighbor who is a young, single female who lives alone. I put on a coat and shoes and trekked out in the snow. Husband wanted to go but he has hip issues at the moment. I banged on her door until she answered. It quickly became apparent that she was fine and not the problem. I asked if she was alone and was there anyone hurting her? She was alone and clearly not hurt or frightened. She thanked me for caring and I went home. (We can't decide how she affords to live in the house she does at her age. Trust baby, internet millionaire?)
So here I sit wondering what the hell...and worrying about I don't know who.

Banshee!
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

You may be misinterpreting the nature of the screams...
Maybe she wasn't really alone...(wink, wink, nudge, nudge)
Or perhaps she had purchased a really good Mr. Buzzy...

Ha ha. This actually isn't funny. At all. I strongly suspect someone in the near neighborhood got the shit beat out of her. I hope she is alive.Lord Jim wrote:You may be misinterpreting the nature of the screams...

That wouldn't be funny at all.

I'M THINKING...
... stress induced night terrors or sleep terrors, take your pick. Often associated with loud screaming and, quite often, sleepwalking. It's not only a problem related to small children.

Therapeutic primal screaming to which she would not admit?

Sounds bogus to me.
I know a young lady who became paraplegic due to a car wreck that was not her fault. She was able to pay for and remodel a very nice house with wheelchair accessibility with the settlement she got from the other driver. Maybe your neighbor got a similar settlement, but doesn't need a wheelchair.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

Re: Screamed out of my warm bed
Did your neighbor say she heard the scream too? If she said 'no' it was probably hers.
Either that or she may have just killed a screaming lady.

OH, NO!
Whatever you do, don't look under the bed... or hide behind the chainsaws.

Ran into the neighbor on the other side of young girl while at the grocery. He heard the screaming but thought it came from the house across the road from the young girl and catty-corner to his home and mine. The plot thickens.

The smell of rotting flesh is hard to ignore. You'll know more in a few days.TPFKA@W wrote:... (A neighbor) heard the screaming but thought it came from the house across the road from the young girl and catty-corner to his home and mine. The plot thickens.

I hope everyone is OK. That's troubling.

Re: Screamed out of my warm bed
Owls and skunks both make screaming noises. The former sound more human and blood-curdling than the latter. When I worked at UCSC I would get occasional calls from people who thought owl screams were human. I most often heard it during nesting but the young owls will sometimes continue to scream for a long time after the adults have stopped bringing food to them.
