My dog missed that memo. My dog, who would happily sleep outside at 20 degrees, waking up to shake-and go back to sleep-when the snow on him was 2" deep, was a well-insulated St. Bernard that had to be practically DRAGGED inside in the winter.Long Run wrote:

Scooter wrote:I was very good this year and got a new set of snow tires the first week of December (old ones weren't worn, but they were VERY old). Of course I knew that meant that we would get little or no snow this winter, and thus far I have been correct (it has snowed enough to stick on the ground exactly twice).
I vote that we annually buy Scooter new snow tires since it appears to be the necessary voodoo performed to ensure a mild winter. Who's in?

Won't work if we buy them...

I had a dog , half lab, black, when I was a young man. Tasha, great hunter, and Frisbee dog, smart and obedient and fearless...
anyway, she had a plastic baby pool, and would cry beside it when it was frozen, I would have to break up the ice with a shovel, and she would just lay right down in the icewater, and drink it too!
she would lay there for 5 minutes, happy as a clam, then be ready to play.

Winter is Icummen in
(Ezra Pound)
Winter is icummen in,
Lhude sing Goddamm,
Raineth drop and staineth slop
And how the wind doth ramm!
Sing: Goddamm.
Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
An ague hath my ham.
Freezeth river, turneth liver
Damn you, sing: Goddamm.
Goddamm, Goddamm, tis why I am,
Goddamm.
So 'gainst the winter's balm
Sing Goddamm, damm, sing Goddamm
Sing Goddamm, sing Goddamm,
DAMM.

Re: Snow's a comin'
My daughter texted me asking what she should do if she loses power (she has electric heat/hot water). I told her the usual, keep the fridge closed, put on a sweater, don't try and take a hot shower, blah blah blah. If need be I'll bring over the generator (if I don't need it). Upon further text's she didn't realize that if my electricity went out my oil burner wouldn't run thus no heat (only got hte generator when Sandy hit). That for all those years in our house (30+) we would have gotten really cold if the power went off in the winter.

That was the "version 1.0" design. The current model has a metal blade, studded tires, and a device to spread sand behind me as I go along.Long Run wrote:Bill is on his way to help, don't worry.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Here's something from Washington, DC, that won't make you want to throw your phone across the room. No speeches. No politicians. No media pundits. It's just a pure, uninterrupted livestream of the snow falling on the National Mall, as seen from the Speaker's office in the U.S. Capitol. Give your Netflix a break and check out the snowfall for a few minutes. Or a few hours. It'll be here all weekend long. - See more at: http://m.speaker.gov/snow#sthash.zRVuDWAY.dpuf

Re: Snow's a comin'
why the heck are national news outlets going wall to wall on the snow?
cnn and msnbc are all snow all the time.
do you guys in frisco (hee hee) really give a shit ?
cnn is doing a bit on shoveling snow right now.
can you believe that the snow actually falls back into places that have already been shoveled? I m astounded....
I am enjoying martin savidge being out in the weather tho..., serves him right for going to al Jazeera, which is closing down..., yay!

I grew up back east wes, and I have a lot of friends and family there, so yes I care about what's going on with this...do you guys in frisco (hee hee) really give a shit ?
On top of that, just about anything is an improvement over endless Trump coverage...

Re: Snow's a comin'
yeah, I get that.
the coverage just seems ridiculous and shallow to me.
I guess I just mind the way it is covered, not that it is being covered.
even the weather channel seems silly to me. I want to see the radar and long range forecast, not human interest stuff
I like jim cantori as much as the next guy, but I ve seen him play in the snow, waiting for thunder, enough times now....
dude, grab a cup of hot chocolate and show me the forecast and conditions

Re: Snow's a comin'
It's snowing and windy. Maybe an inch and a half so far. (I'm in RI, not NH.) Getting 8-10" here...have a generator if the power goes out.
Would be a hell of a lot more fun if I hadn't had my wisdom teeth out yesterday.

best wishes jarl....
just started snowing again here. we got about 5-6 inches by the time I went to sleep last night but it turned to rain soon after and most of it washed away or consolidated to a heavy slushy snow.
Cuomo, just announced widespread travel bans starting at 2:30 trains stop at 4:30 I think.
the highways on long island close at 2:30 , port authority too , all downstate roads

Re: Snow's a comin'
Is this because this "Snowmageddon" or whatever the hell they are calling it is actually supposed to be that bad, or is it because that people on the east coast just don't know how to handle themselves (and by implication, their cars, their homes, their safety, and their sanity) in a winter snowfall?wesw wrote:best wishes jarl....

I used to think that California drivers were the worst, but now I'm beginning to wonder about the people on the right coast as well.
I'm also waiting for Trump to announce any minute now that if he is elected he will propose a huge wall along the Canadian border to keep these winter storms in Canada where they belong .... and that he's going to get Canada to pay for it.
