By the way — what's the difference between a vacuum cleaner and The Donald?
None — they're both large windbags that totally suck.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

I have to disagree...

At least a vacuum cleaner has an off switch...

And a useful purpose...

Current immigration favors people from the third world. People who have no wealth, no particular education, no particular skills.

Engineers, computer specialists, & other scientists are going back to their home countries by the thousands, unable to get an H1-A, while Democrats welcome the wretched bastards whom they know will be dependent on Government for generations, and try various stratagems to get eventual citizenship for the 20+ million illegals who currently reside here - at least half of whom are ALREADY on welfare.

What percentage of that 40 million in 2010 do you suppose have college degrees? By what thought process do you suppose that their children will be attending college in the same proportion as previous generations of immigrants from Europe, India, China, Vietnam, etc?

What are you smoking?
I've been meaning to get back to this subject (since Dave addressed this post to me specifically), but I couldn't remember which thread it was in.

First of all, I thought that the fact that the current proportion of immigrants vis-à-vis the total U.S. population is, historically, not exceptionally high--and that it didn't start with Ted Kennedy--was significant and worth pointing out.

But my main point was that most of the previous immigrants were also seen as "people who have no wealth, no particular education, no particular skills." (Also as "tired", "poor", "wretched refuse [of the world's] teeming shore", "homeless, tempest-tossed", and "huddled masses yearning to breathe free.") The vast waves of Irish immigrants who came in the 19th century during and after the Potato Famine were seen as members of an "inferior race" and depicted in the written press and in cartoons as bumbling idiots, and erratic, pugnacious drunks. The ragged, penniless non-English-speaking Jews who arrived in the late 19th century fleeing persecution, famine and pogroms in eastern Europe lived in American urban ghettos and were distrusted and disparaged by the good Christian American citizens already here. Like the Italians who arrived a little later, their lack of command of the English language was seen as evidence of their being backward and lazy. And the widespread perception of the Italians who arrived from the 1890s to the 1920s was that--besides being backward and lazy--if they weren't anarchists or Bolsheviks, they were Fascists or Communists, and if they weren't those, they were involved in organized crime. (Ever read an account of the arrest and trial of Nicola Sacco and Bart Vanzetti in the 1920s?) And of course all these groups (plus the Poles, the Mexicans, the Chinese, the Japanese, etc.) lacked the Protestant Work Ethic so they would never fit in and never succeed in the U.S. of A.

Except for your imaginary "welfare" program currently supporting 10+ million illegal aliens, you've offered absolutely *ZERO* evidence that current derogatory perceptions of immigrants today are any less inaccurate than these earlier misconceptions, prejudices, and outright lies concerning earlier immigrants.

Or is your real argument that the U.S. economy has undergone such a complete and fundamental change that nowadays there is no hope for economic advancement by anyone except those who are *ALREADY* wealthy? --and no hope for changing this?

P.S. BTW, I do agree with you that foreign-born, U.S.-educated "engineers, computer specialists, & other scientists" being forced to return to their home countries rather than being allowed to immigrate is a real problem. (Often their only hope of remaining here is to marry a U.S. citizen.) But that's a whole 'nother discussion.
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

If trump skips this upcoming debate it may just give everyone the chance to sink him. After all a big part of being president is dealing with people you don't like and you can't play prima donna with international politics and still be taken seriously.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

I hope you're right CP, but remember this is Donald Trump, who recently told his followers that they are so brain-dead that he could shoot somebody and they'd still support him...

And his polls didn't drop a bit...

It requires his opposition to be smart and put up a united front. Good luck with the first part the second might be possible now that Cruz has been taking some me punishment from Trump.

trump is the most accessible candidate I have ever seen.

he goes on ALL networks and takes on all comers.

to call him 'scared' of the debate is laughable.

the other candidates will destroy cruz if trump isn t there.

they will do the work FOR trump.

brilliant.

plus he stands up to FOX, which helps him immensely with crossover voters if he gets to the general election.

Reagan has returned, with a little kennedy and a little TR thrown in for spice....

Let's play - Who Said This?....
...I ll bet that Ben Carson gets more votes than Trump, once the sideshow is over and the voting begins. Trump was fun, in a 'stick it to the man' kinda way, but very few would trust him, with his spitefulness, to be president.
