It's not over until the final sousaphone band march, the cheerleaders fall over, and Janet's tit gets an airing.

Fortunately and thankfully, PBS aired new episodes of Downton Abbey and Mercy Street.

I had to work. Who won?

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
Re: I'm Glad The D@mned Event Is FINALLY Over!
Denver. Personally I thought it was a pretty good game. Tho the first half was definitely the high point of the game. Commercials mostly sucked tho.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

I agree, though a bit sloppy...(but the screw ups made it exciting)Personally I thought it was a pretty good game.
Man, ain't that the truth...Commercials mostly sucked tho.
This was the worst Super Bowl from a "commercials" standpoint that I can recall...
Over and over I kept shaking my head and saying, "I can't believe somebody just spent five million dollars to broadcast that..."
A yoooge number of epic fails...

I could barely believe it but after 45 minutes, the game had actually racked up 10 minutes of playing time! Well done both teams! Of course, that 10 minutes consisted of perhaps 4 minutes total actual action. (That "advancing the ball" that LJ loves). I think it was 2.25 hours of broadcasting that got us to the 3rd quarter.
Granted the half-time "show", which would have been improved by some music but then..., anyway, it must be granted the half time show was a lot longer than usual for some inexplicable reason.
Special "insider" reports from both locker rooms revealed that BOTH TEAMS performed their usual half time routines BUT THERE MORE MINUTES THAN USUAL. Thanks to Jay and the lady for that.

I agree too. We've gotten so used to offensive dominated football, with its pinball racking up of yardage and points, that the general thinking is that the game is boring when two defenses dominate. And Denver's defense was so "on" that it had the Carolina O-line all jumpy (how many false starts did they have?). On the other hand, the defenses dominated in part because the offenses were average.Lord Jim wrote:I agree, though a bit sloppy...(but the screw ups made it exciting)Personally I thought it was a pretty good game.

I love defensive games. Wade Phillip's scheme was brilliant and the players executed it pretty much perfectly. To think Phillips was not working for any team in the 2014 season.
Congrats to the Bronco's.

And I wonder how much Budweiser paid Peyton Manning to give them a plug during his postgame interview?
Interviewer: "Hey Peyton, you just wan the Superbowl, what are you going to do now"
Peyton: "Go get falling down drunk on Busweisers"
I guess they don't do "I'm going to DisneyLand" any more.

We took the opportunity to go to the movies, and saw the Coen brothers' new one, Hail Caesar! There were literally three other couples in the theater.
I think we'll do this every year from now on.

Might get a little tired seeing the same movie every year, but maybe it is that good.Sue U wrote:We took the opportunity to go to the movies, and saw the Coen brothers' new one, Hail Caesar! There were literally three other couples in the theater.

Well, it was pretty good, but probably not enough to make it an annual event on its own. We'll probably have to rotate thru this one, Big Lebowski, Intolerable Cruelty and O Brother.

I went to a meeting at 6:30 that ended at 7:45 then watched the rest of the game.
Only 6 people at the meeting which usually has 25-30.

Generally speaking, Margaretta and I enjoy Coen bros. movies. (Not the Big L, though). Is Hail Caesar one we should try?Sue U wrote:We took the opportunity to go to the movies, and saw the Coen brothers' new one, Hail Caesar! There were literally three other couples in the theater.

Football, that's the one they play with the brown leather ball that's pointy on both ends, right?
The "big city" of Mrs Mc's youth was Denver, three hours away by '57 Chevy. She also graduated from a university on the other side of the state. She had to be for Denver. I really didn't care who won, but went along with her in the interest of familial harmony. We watched about 3/4 of the game after returning from out of town.
I can't help but wonder if things might have gone differently if the refs had made the correct call after viewing the replay (and the replay and the replay and the replay from another angle after that) of the Carolina player clearly catching the ball early in the game. The receiver had control, however tenuous, and the ball DID NOT touch the ground. That constitutes a completed pass in my rule book.
We both enjoyed the ad with Helen Mirren more than the others. Told it like it is, she did.

I believe the "new rule" on a catch is that the player must make a football move after securing the ball, or must show complete possesion of the ball (no jiggling/juggling) while going to the turf.
Don't recall the play bt I might not have seen it as I didn't start watching until the last 1/3rd of the 2nd quarter.

Re: I'm Glad The D@mned Event Is FINALLY Over!
Honestly, yes, I think you would enjoy it (nothing prurient in it), especially if you are a fan of post-war "Golden Age" Hollywood cinema. The film tweaks American culture through the lens of late-40s/early 50s Hollywood, and is jam packed with allusions to and rather gentle parodies of events, people and movies of that time. I thought it was very amusing, although not as fall-down-laughing funny as some of their other comedies. My only real complaint is that the cast is so big (and so fabulous), none of them gets enough screen time, except Josh Brolin (around whom the story revolves). Scarlett Johansson is awesome, as is Tilda Swinton (playing twins). And Channing Tatum's big scene is really something to behold.MajGenl.Meade wrote: Generally speaking, Margaretta and I enjoy Coen bros. movies. (Not the Big L, though).
