Again, the issue is prescriptive vs. descriptive. The Old Testament is (partly) a particular historical telling of events involving the establishment, the decline and the downfall of Israel and then Judah. There's lots of violence described because there was a lot of violence (duh).
The Koran, written long afterward, besides being totally fabricated from bits of Judaism and Christianity, prescribes violence as the means by which "the truth" will be imposed upon infidels. That or excessive taxes to avoid being killed.

Just like Judaism was fabricated from Zoroastrianism and other religions. And the Israelites imposed their faith by the sword on the peoples of Judea, or exterminated them:

... and they did not "impose their faith" by the sword. Not one person was forced to become a Jew nor were they barred from worshiping their baals and poles and what-have-you. Those old-timers were nice about that than Christians and Moslems in later times.

Our thoughts as to what we think God "should have" done are without relevance. God is concerned about you and over years humans were inspired to write the story of that concern so that you can read it and understand it. It is after all equally for Jew and Gentile, for Hebrew and Greek.
