Wow, they look more like paintings than photos. And this is just down the road a bit from BSG ...

It's a technique I use Sue, it's called "high dynamic range" (HDR) photography.
It takes three or more of the same images, one shot at correct exposure, one at -1 stop one at +1 stop, and blends the best bits of all three into one image.
Here's one of mine (click the "magnifying glass" icon under the image at webshots to get a reasonable sized version.)
