It is stupid and dishonest to be proud of your 'heritage'. It leads to self-delusion and lying. Some of your ancestors have done evil and some have done good. If you do not admit the former then you are entitled to no share in the latter. This is the motive force which has driven the south to lie about their own heritage and pretend that the civil war was not a war to perpetuate the evil of slavery and it is the motive force which has driven some modern Japanese to deny the horrors of WWII, the slavery, cannibalism, torture and rape, to defend their glory.


It is no reflection on me morally what my ancestors have done. Nor is it a reflection on anyone else.


Basking in the reflected glory of others is an act of a moral dwarf. And it is just as wrong to suggest that the evils of ancestors dooms people in the present to being just as bad.

And by the same token, one should feel no shame based on their heritage...

Which makes the whole idea of current generations (who had nothing to do with the actions of their ancestors) issuing "apologies" (let alone offering "reparations") morally baseless...

Once again, I take up the duty of Captain Obvious. Racist? That is anything that deals with racial categories as something useful and significant.

So yes, it is 'racist' to be proud of being black, hispanic, white or the older categories of race when I was younger, such as Polack, Mic, Chink, Dago. I respect and concede value to 'black pride' because of the long dominant cultural assumption that being black was a condition that should be shameful.

Me, I am a member of the Human race; even though I have met members of the Canine race that have shamed me. Human race is the only race I admit to membership. I fudge the various government forms that ask questions about race or ethnicity. Both category lists are almost always politically defined, absent objective characteristics.
