Twenty years ago I would have gladly matched my wine expertise — well, actually, my employer's wine expertise — against any of you.

I worked for this man for about a year before he closed his main shop and 'retired' to a subordinate role at a second store run by his son and I can safely say that over his career this man had probably forgotten more about wine than most of today's so-called "connoisseurs", "wine hobbyists", or "oenophiles" — who get most of their knowledge from things like TV shows and "Wine Spectator" magazine — will ever know.  We had people who would drive from the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, or Chicago (and further!) just to come speak with him, share a little time in the tasting room with him, and then leave with two or three *cases* of wines he had recommended.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

"...against any of you." Something adversarial in this thread so that's some kind of slap? :shrug

Sounds like my kind of wine shop and a great resource to find good things. "He didn't always sell you the most expensive wine. If it tasted good and was a good value, all the better." Exactly right. :ok

I was never a wine person although the family (myself included) has Henkel (a German sparkling wine) on the holidays.
No more for me but the others still have it.

It takes a while to be approved here because our administrators have to do a background check on everyone to make sure they're not fleeing felons or members of ISIS or any other terrorist group.

The security at Plan B is top notch. You're protected from vicious attacks from outsiders.

Aha! I fooled them! I am an Eagle Scout and have sung in the choir. For many years I was a little red book carrying member if the International Workers of the World. That clearly puts me in the profile of very dangerous prevert. (And I have been a philatelist and a thespian)

Now, a "Hunka' Hunka' Burnin' Petard." You can feel the fire.

sg/BP -- I think you're the last reprobate to bail from LeChatHouse. Give me a few days and I'll get used to your new handle. Nonetheless, all there is left is the memories.

I checked out LCH a little while ago...

It looks like except for The Ya-Ya Yard room, every single thread in every room (except for one per room) has vanished...

Does that version of LCH have some "feature" that auto-deletes threads?

Not sure why anyone would want that feature... :?

It does have that feature. Remember a while back when I copied a post from over there and pasted it here? (and all the grief I got for it?) After some time passed I wanted to post a link to the same thread but it was gone. Econoline told us Le Chat House had always been like that for some reason that might have something to do with cost.

Don't I remember Burning Petard of Restraint?

Thinking along the same lines, MG ... but I think that was back in the Cafe d'Artre days.
Remember some of the others .... like Mammo the Talking Glue Gun, Faldage, editec, N.G. Neer, carguy, Coopmeister, WOE, bluefrog, Bones/Skippy the Chimp, kmkat, Miss Nikki, Nette, and of course, Gervais, just to name a few?

And is anyone up for a game of Whirleyball (I remember that was one of the events during one of the FtFs)?  I bet if we can get Gob to try it he'll like it even better than cricket or those other peculiar sports they play over there on that little island of theirs.

I don't know how a burning petard could be restrained. Water maybe?
