Grimm

So here's a show I really enjoy. Or rather enjoyed until a recent development.

For those who don't know Grimm here's a brief rundown of what it's about.

"Portland detective, Nick Burkhardt, has seen some gruesome crime scenes, but nothing prepares him for the strange visions he begins seeing: seemingly regular people momentarily transforming into hideous monsters. A visit from his only living relative reveals the truth. Nick has inherited the ability to see supernatural creatures, and as a "Grimm," he is tasked with keeping the balance between mankind and the mythological. A reformed "Big Bad Wolf" becomes his greatest (and also reluctant) ally and confidant. It's not long before his work as a policeman leads Nick to the criminals he once thought were only found in fairy tales."

So OK, it's another fantasy drama from the USA ... right up my street. Until....

At the end of season two one of the protagonists of the show, a Witch (Hexenbiest) physically changes herself into a copy of Burkhardt's girlfriend in order to sleep with him to strip him of his "Grimm" powers. She incidentally falls pregnant from this encounter.

So this is rape right?

So why then now in season four are the rapist, the victim and the unfortunate child living together all happy family??

Sorry show... this is a shitty thing to do. Had the gender roles been reversed in this situation people would have been up in arms about it.

I find myself now watching the show through gritted teeth in the hope that the screenwriters and producers of this show will somehow redeem themselves by admitting this is shitty.

I know this is just a dumb TV show....

It's not crap. That's my point. It's fantasy drama, it's a genre that I love very much. It's just jarrs on me that this particular part of the story has been so badly handled.

Did you ever watch Fringe?

If you haven't seen it, (it ran from 2008-2013; we watched it over the past couple of months on Netflix) I think you'd like it...

Fringe is probably my number two show of all time. Sandwiched between The X Files and Supernatural.

That was a show that never put a foot wrong, ever.

I miss Walter Bishop so much.

John Noble was so likable in that nutty professor/mad scientist role I wish he was a relative...(I have a relative similar to him...) he played it brilliantly...

And then you mentioned "Fringe", "X Files", and "Supernatural" in another post.  Wassamatter, you forget about "Lost" or all the various walking dead/zombie, alien invaders, and vampire garbage that's out there?
Fantasy drama = really freaky made-up shit.  It couldn't even be considered a sub-genre of sci-fi, because sci-fi is required to follow certain rules of science and logic.

Ummmm now I love most of what JJ Abrams does but Lost lost me early on. Me and hubby have already decided that The Walking Dead will be our show to binge during the lonely summer months when all our favourite shows are on hiatus.

The whole point of fantasy as a genre is that it has no rules and logic is something that happens to other people (this particularly applies to Supernatural).

Supposedly, it is popular overseas (apparently so based on this thread) so it has a decent chance of being renewed, but without that foreign support, it would have been put to bed last year.

Hopefully it will be, but I really want them to address the issues around Adalind assaulting Nick. It's making me more uncomfortable than I ought to be for a fantasy drama.

Supernatural has eleven series under it's belt and there have been more than a few shonky series of that
