Re: trump is serious!!!!!
I have been puzzled by all of the GOP tv debates. The moderator starts the program, like the referee on the old Friday nite tv Boxing programs--gives the participants a brief admonition to play by the rules and be nice. After describing the time allotments and light system, it is all abandoned. Rarely anyone actually called for ignoring the rules and then no behavior changes.
Why does not the moderator(s) simply cut off the mics for those who are pushing the time or talking over others? The only answer I have so far is that this is all entertainment and follows the Jerry Springer model. The tv networks are all hoping for the moment Trump actually does punch somebody in the face.
I began reading here today with the first two pages of this thread. It goes back a long way. One datum that was predicted frequently back then was that Trump would collapse after his required financial disclosure form was released. At the debate last night Trump asserted that he filed it long ago and it has had no impact. He also stated that his companies were so big and it was all so complicated that we would not understand it anyway, and on the advice of attorneys he was gonna keep it all locked up in the audit process. The hiring process for non-Americans at his resort in Florida, however is clearly understandable. Rubio got it right and at least that part of his vast financial empire prefers non-Americans for employees in Florida--they are cheaper and never threaten to unionize.
Me, I find the guy scary electable and like the actor Baldwin a while back, at breakfast this morning my spouse and I discussed moving out of the country if he is elected. We consider Mexico financially doable and safer for us than the USA with Trump as the most powerful man in the world.
Interesting that on NPR news radio this morning they were saying nobody put a glove on Trump last nite. While the NY Times, and my own view, was that Rubio had him ducking and some what stunned several times. Dr. Carson and the Ohio governor were good for a return to civility once in a while.
PS. as long as I am in the sporting metaphor mood, I believe the political establishment and the usual political science experts have not noticed that boxing has not been main stream American for a long time. Who can name the world welter weight boxing champ? Cage fighting and mixed martial arts is where it's at now. My local Y even runs such events monthly. That is where Trump is.

Well Chris owes it to Trump; Trump was the only person who could make him look good.

Trump is a 21st century Hitler-in-the-making; our country will make abhorrent history if he is elected, I have zero doubt.

there you go!
call us Nazis!
how s that working out for you?
anyone here have any relatives or friends who have admitted to supporting trump yet?
would you call them a Nazi?
dictators don t begin their careers in their late 60 s.....
hey! I know!
you can say that trump is worse than ISIS!!!!
you can say that his supporters want to enslave women and kill everyone who disagrees with them!!!
well, you don t want to say it to actual ISIS types.
do you?
if you offend them they will kill you, and you are too empathetic (scared) to hurt their feelings...
so attack trump and me, we will forgive you when we bring the country back together.
but you call us evil for now. call us racist, call us hitler....
you are serving your purpose.
how can that mean lady call my daddy hitler?
just by coincidence my daughter is having a field trip to mt Vernon and the holocaust museum today...
the lord works in mysterious ways.
I teach my kids about Nazis, about hitler, I made them watch the videos of the death camps.
I tried to read mein kampf once, I could feel the evil within it and I quickly put it away. I threw it in the trash eventually.
but you call us Nazis, go ahead.
I can t even be angry with you.
you serve your purpose.

Re: trump is serious!!!!!
There is so much to legitimately hammer Trump on that it is ridiculous to jump on the latest knee-jerk Hitler comparison. In fact, such unreasonable hyperbole just dilutes the myriad real concerns and criticisms, and makes Trump a victim and further rallies the disaffected to his "cause".BoSoxGal wrote:Trump is a 21st century Hitler-in-the-making; our country will make abhorrent history if he is elected, I have zero doubt.
Re: trump is serious!!!!!
Well that's a bit harsh...Trump is a 21st century Hitler-in-the-making
I'd go with Mussolini....

(That's sarcasm, BTW...)
Long Run's got it right...

Re: trump is serious!!!!!
LR--I think the hitler comparison is over the top (and perhaps was even done in jest), but I do think Trump (as well as some others) does share the trait with other dictators of basically thinking he can do everything on his own. Part because he's a legend in his own mind, part because he really feels he can manipulate people by his personality, and part because he's really bought into his self-made man story, he really does feel he can (and should be able to) rule by decree. Now personally UI don't think he has it in him to be one man government, but he clearly does, and some of those sick of the gridlock of politics as usual are lapping it up like it's real.
Again, I think his election would result in a government that can get nothing done (except perhaps to impeach him when he ticks off everyone in Congress), but I have no doubt he's rule unilaterally if he could, and that would be a disaster.

Re: trump is serious!!!!!
The more I see, the more I see him as the American version of Rob Ford, minus the drug and alcohol addiction. Total megalomaniac, knows how to capitalize on voters fears and frustrations by telling them exactly what they want to hear, regardless of any ability to actually deliver, absolutely no regard for whether whatever comes out of his mouth bears any passing resemblance to the truth, makes himself out to be the anti-establishment candidate in spite of being one of the elite of the elites....
And yes, there are enough people willing to believe in anything that purports to make their lives better that he could well be elected. And like Rob Ford, he will be able to score some early successes with cooperation from those who see him as the new power in town, but it will soon crumble to shit under the force of his inability to accept any scintilla of dissension from his allies until he finds himself alone against a monolithic opposition.

at a local or state level, I would agree with you. But in federal politics, everyone (or most of them anyway) think they are the new power in town. These are some of the biggest egos you can find. And like Rob Ford, he will be able to score some early successes with cooperation from those who see him as the new power in town,

RR, it s not the gridlock that people are tired of, it is the corruption.
