Nobody is voting for Trump to actually be president (i.e., to do the job of presidenting). They're voting for Trump as an act of violence against government in general. There is little if any thought to the consequences.Lord Jim wrote:The funny (funny strange, not funny ha ha) thing about Carson, is that once it became apparent that he had absolutely no idea what he was doing, and had no business running for the Presidency, his numbers tanked...
Why hasn't the same thing happened to Drumpf?![]()
He's every bit as unqualified to be President as Ben Carson...

I don't want to speak for CP, but I believe the implication was that people expect a brain surgeon to be smart, so Carson's followers had expectations that would have to be met—or not. OTOH, nobody expects superintelligence from a talking yam or a clown in a fright wig...so it's pretty easy for Trump to exceed expectations.Big RR wrote:Are you saying he is?

Which leads to the logical conclusion that we have been overestimating the intelligence of brain surgeons all these years. Please don't let a rocket scientist run for president, or all of our illusions may be dashed.
GAH!
Re: trump is serious!!!!!
Intelligence comes in many different forms. Carson is seriously lacking in many areas that deal with politics.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: trump is serious!!!!!
I saw a Trumpanzee interviewed standing in line yesterday, while she was waiting to go in to vote (I think it was in Tennessee) and she said, when asked why she was voting for Donald Trump:
"I don't like a lot of what he says, but he's strong and he'll change things"....
Support for Trump has no intellectual basis; it's visceral and emotional...(and therefore it's inaccessible to being refuted by rational argument...)
And Trump knows this, and he plays it like a violin...
As Marco Rubio has correctly pointed out, Trump saw the anger and frustration that many Americans have felt and he "swooped in" to exploit it...
It's difficult for me to speak with any real authority about what motivates Trump supporters, because frankly, with the exception of wesw, I don't personally know any.....
I know a lot of Republicans, I know a lot of conservatives, and I also know a lot of Liberals, Democrats, and leftists...even a couple of verifiable communists....
But no Trump supporters....(that's probably because all the people I know IRL left, right, and center are too intelligent to be Trump supporters...but I wont go there....
)
But that having been said, I believe I do have a bit of an insight into what motivates these folks, and it's much as Sue described it:
This charlatan did not create the level of visceral anger and disaffection that many people feel towards the political process...
That's been many years in the making.... it's a stew that's been cooked by both parties...
This flim-flam man has merely "swooped in" to cleverly exploit it...
The anger and frustration is completely understandable...
But if you have an upset stomach, the solution isn't to drink rat poison....even if it's in a really appealing looking bottle...
And that's what Druimpf has on offer here...

i m really afraid that trump is going to lose the gay Canadian vote if he doesn t change his ways...

As usual, wes, reality zooms right over your head like a 747. Foreigners like me and the rest of those populating this board are salivating at the prospect of a Trump presidency. It will give us fodder to continue laughing at you all for the next four years. As I said earlier, Trump is the American Rob Ford, and we all know how much fun everyone who didn't live in this city had at the expense of those of us who did while he was in office.

Ok, Scoot, fees up.

i just thought it was sad to watch the man s life fall apart.
if he had been sober, like trump, he may have done well.
do you really salivate at the opportunity to laugh at others?
that is another sad thing, i think.

Well, he's been sober for a couple of years now, and guess what, the drugs and booze were not the problem. He's just another asshat silver spooner who put on a really good carnival act. Sound familiar?
And yes, when vicious and mean spirited people choose to make themselves the object of ridicule, I have no problem obliging them. They had a choice to act like something other than malignant pricks, and took the easier path instead, because it made them feel good to step on others to build up their own self-image. They deserve no sympathy, and so I give them none. I never claimed to be a saint, or to pretend to see good in all people even when there isn't any there.
