Malawi bishops: gays belong in prison

Post by Scooter »

The Roman Catholic Episcopal Conference of Malawi has published a pastoral letter in which the bishops of that country take the government to task on a number of social justice issues. Amid their expressions of concern for the effect of government policies on the poor, the bishops believed it was necessary to chide the government for suspending the enforcement of anti-gay legislation:
We agree with those who have faulted the Government for putting a moratorium on laws governing homosexual acts. This means that those guilty of homosexual acts or unions cannot be prosecuted. The Government has bowed down to pressure from donor community, international bodies and local human rights campaigners. As Pastors, we find this path very unfortunate. It is an act of betrayal on the part of those in power to sell our country to foreign practices and tendencies contrary to the will of God because of money.
Now, I don't know if the government's motivation in instituting the moratorium was the fear that foreign aid would be cut off, but let's assume that the bishops are correct. They are saying quite clearly, in a document that is otherwise primarily about holding the government accountable for its responsibilities to help the poor, that if the choice is between helping the poor and throwing the filthy queers in prison, the bishops would prefer that the the filthy queer be thrown in prison even if it means that the poor will go hungry.

That's Christian charity for you.

Dont pay that much attention to narrow minded bigots like that Scooter ,I believe a lot of Christians ,say they are Christians just to escape the threatened punishment of Hell ,I know a few who would probably volunteer to man the thermostat of Hell and round up and put back those who escape .Bigotry leads to things like the Witch hunts ,the Holocaust and the Inquisition for example ,as one friend of mine said once " We should not be more particular then Jesus "
PS -I like that block you have included . :ok
