Name That Movie!
Name That Movie!
Damn! On both counts.

“In a world whose absurdity appears to be so impenetrable, we simply must reach a greater degree of understanding among us, a greater sincerity.”

It's a little obscure so another hint:
A: I kinda liked Bubba Ho-Tep.
B: *Everyone* liked Bubba Ho-Tep.

Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: Name That Movie!
I had a guess after the quote was posted based on the film-interest history of the poster...
But I'm not eligible...

But I'm not eligible...

Re: Name That Movie!
If jim is not eligible, then I guess I am--My Name is Bruce. the second quote nailed it for me--I didn't really recall the first one.
Re: Name That Movie!
I got the character after the first quote, but not the specific movie till after the second...

Re: Name That Movie!
FWIW, I don't recall seeing the movie, so the second quote must have been in a trailer.

Das BigRR?
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

I am going to assume I won as I am pretty sure of the answer. Here's another quote:
Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

"Superman" (1978) with Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman. The quote is being delivered by Lex Luthor, played by Hackman.Big RR wrote:I am going to assume I won as I am pretty sure of the answer. Here's another quote:

I always did like the Superman movies with Christopher Reeve, probably because it didn't try to get too far afield from the Superman I remembered from the earlier TV series. The music and themes created by John Williams certainly didn't hurt them any.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
Re: Name That Movie!
Bicycle Bill is correct. That was one of my favorite quotes from that movie.
And FWIW, I did like the first two Superman movies with Christopher Reeve, but then thin the series tanked with the Richard Prior picture posing as a Superman movie (3) and the nuclear disarmament debacle (4). The first two stuck to the comic book character of the 50s and 60s I recall, as well as the George Reeves one (it was a little bit campy, but not annoyingly so).

"I can't even read my own writing. I don't do shorthand, and I can't type."
"What do you do for a living?"
"I'm a secretary."

Re: Name That Movie!
I think I know, but I am screened out.
Re: Name That Movie!
Well...
The reference to shorthand would seem to indicate that it's probably from the 50's or before...
(Or it could be a later made movie set in an earlier time...)
The quote itself indicates that it's all most certainly a comedy...
But other than that...

I think it may be time for a clue or two here...
● Set in the US but almost all exterior filming done in Canada.
● Co-stars include Scatman Crothers, Clifton James, and Ray Walston.
