To be fair, I don't get the impression that wes is really those things...

Except for the asshole part of course...

Of course he supports a candidate for President who blatantly panders to all those base and toxic instincts, and that doesn't seem to bother him...

A candidate who doesn't dog whistle to get racist support; he conducts a 100 piece orchestra....

I'm prepared to be proven mistaken, but I don't think I've ever seen him personally post anything that could be characterized as "racist"...

As for "sexist" it's true that he has been an asshole to some of the female participants here, but he's been an asshole to males here as well...(He basically told me that because I think Drumpf's wall, with his "Mexico will pay for it" malarkey is an idiotic, counter-productive and fanciful idea that I don't care about American children and want heroin imported into the country... )

And regarding "right wing fascist", I've had that accusation hurled at me often enough to be cautious about tagging somebody with it...

A little digression about Trumpty's wall:

His proposal went from the moronic to the totally insane when he came out with his "plan" (declaring economic war on Mexico) for forcing the Mexican government to pay for it...

You don't have to be a MacArthur grant recipient to figure out that the quickest way to insure a tidal wave of illegal aliens cascading across the border is to wreck the Mexican economy...

They'll be coming here faster than Trump will be able to get his goon squads to deport them...

If one is seriously concerned about illegal immigration, (and I certainly count myself as one who is) then you want a thriving Mexican economy, not a ruined one...

A prosperous neighbor is a good neighbor; look at Canada....

I used to talk with Guy on the phone fairly regularly going all the way back to the Cafe Darte days back in the mid-nineties...

I never had a serious mad-on for him the way Strop some people did...

I didn't like the influence he wielded over Gwenvita, but I blamed her for that, not him. As the admin, she was the one who had a responsibility to not allow her personal friendships to interfere with the fair and impartial management of the board. Guy could be dick, (Steve ultimately became a much bigger dick; a right Über Dick was our Steve) but as a board member, he didn't have any responsibility not to be a dick. The one with whom responsibility lay was Her Gweness...

She started out just fine... (I had a good relationship with Gwen initially, and I defended her for a long time even as her list of detractors grew...) and it was good of her to step in when Gar Houdinied, (I was taking a sabbatical from the board when all of that went down, but my understanding was that no one else was interested at the time in taking the responsibility on.) but ultimately, she just got too big for her britches...

Somewhere along the line, she lost sight of the fact that she was not the board owner and therefore did have the kind of absolute authority that a board owner would have. She was just "first among equals"; a steward not a Queen. She had an affirmative obligation to follow the will of the majority of the members provided that what the members wanted wasn't that would be completely destructive of the purpose of the board. (Like if they had voted to allow kiddie porn to be posted, for example, or voted to ban someone based purely on their unpopular views.)

She became consumed with arrogance, and as the level of antagonism between her two BFFS and nearly everyone else on the board, (I remember that Steve even managed to piss Kristina off... ) grew and deepened, she became more and more defensive, and let it color her judgement...

It got to the point where I believe she basically disliked everyone on the board except for Steve, Guy and Kiko, and she would have been perfectly happy if everyone else had left...(Which is of course, ultimately what happened...)

She also developed an extremely irritating and annoying penchant for blatant passive-aggressive behavior, all the while trying to play innocent...

That bullshit really got on my last nerve...(Which I'm sure was her intent...if you want to tell me to go fuck myself, then just tell me to go fuck myself...don't try to pretend that you're saying what a swell guy I am... )

I miss Gwenhaywire. I think of her as the Larry of the Three Stooges. editec was undoubtedly the Moe. Steve was more of a Shemp than a Curly. He seemed a little shell-shocked.

Gwen was head over heels for Editec and hid it poorly. If she has not yet become Mrs. Editec I am sure she is beside herself by now. I think she thought that is what the future held, with them then adopting Steve, their special needs child.

It's funny...

Personally I always thought that while she developed an almost cult-like adoration for editec, the one she was really kicking boots with was Steve...

I think they had even mentioned about getting together (they only lived a few hours drive from each other) though of course not admitting to any sex...

Another thing that really pissed me off about Gwen (and also editec) was how when Steve was slipping further and further into delusional clinical paranoia and becoming a complete crank, instead of trying to bring him back to reality they actually encouraged him to become nuttier and nuttier (and nastier and nastier) by praising him for the nutty things he said, and providing him with positive reinforcement and validation for his delusions...

What made me angry about it was that they were supposedly his best friends, but instead of trying to get him to come back to reality they were doing the opposite. If they truly cared about him, they'd be trying to talk him in off the ledge; not telling him he could fly...

But of course they weren't wrapped all that tight themselves, so maybe that would have been an unrealistic expectation...

The people who were trying to get him to snap out of it were his real friends, but he was too far gone to realize it...

I remember shortly before the CSB went tits up going back and reading some of Steve's posts from earlier years.. (before his wife left him; I think that's really when his descent into madness began...of course whether he was starting to go crazy and that's why she left him, or if the bitterness of her leaving him drove him over the edge, we'll never know. If I recall he said she took up with a guy who made a lot more money than he did and that would go along way towards explaining the pathological hatred he developed towards people who were better off than him.)

What I read was pretty amazing; it didn't even seem like remotely the same person...

It's hard to remember this now, but in earlier years Steve was a pretty laid back and sweet tempered guy...

Far from the vicious shit flinger and four star whackjob that he ultimately became (to this day Steve continues to hold the record for the single most vile and disgusting accusation I have ever seen posted on a BBS...I'm not going to repeat it; I'm sure most people here know I'm referring to) Steve was actually kind of a board "peacemaker"...

He got along well with everybody, and I read some posts of his where he would jump into a spat between other posters to try and get them to resolve it. He was a regular voice for politely trying to get folks to calm down and be civil to one another...

Like I said not even remotely the same person....
