Prince is Dead?
Re: Prince is Dead?
I liked some of his early stuff, but began to not listen to him as time went on. But I agree, music is a matter of taste, and there were many who cared about him.
However, some of his publicity stunts( like changing his name to the symbol) were a bit too silly for my tastes.

If you can stand listening to those cackling hens around him, in this video you can get a glimpse of Prince's personality when he isn't performing. I picked a short one for those of you with preconceived hostility and hatred for the deceased because you didn't follow his music...
He seemed to be pretty down to earth when he wasn't doing his act - you know.... acting... on a stage. Playing a part... being a character in a performance...

Re: Prince is Dead?
Well, that glyph thing was a bit legit - he was protesting the contract with (WB?) and returned to Prince after that was all over.
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: Prince is Dead?
My understanding is that in his case the whole self-absorbed Garbo routine was really just an act for performance purposes...(Much like Alice Cooper was really a pretty down-to-earth guy....)
Unlike Michael Jackson, who really was nuttier than a Party Sized jar of Planters...

Examples of Prince being a prima donna prick and some not.
The weird Al story is really prime Prince prick, not refusing the parody, but the other bit.
I didn't like him or his music early on. As has been said, different tastes.
OTOH he was said to be very religious, not necessarily a good thing, and he was a REPUBLICAN. Har har.

Here's a bit of useless trivia:Lord Jim wrote:My understanding is that in his case the whole self-absorbed Garbo routine was really just an act for performance purposes...(Much like Alice Cooper was really a pretty down-to-earth guy....)
Alice Cooper and Pat Boone were neighbors on the same street in SoCal.
And Pat Boone is in the political news today.
Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Prince was his name and the boxer was a prince
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Re: Prince is Dead?
Uh, nope. He didn't vote due to being a Jehovah's Witness, and he openly criticized the conservative Republican politicians who used the Bible for political means. He expressed a wide range of views over his public lifetime, most recently supporting Black Lives Matter and playing a concert in tribute to Freddy Gray. There is no evidence that he was affiliated with any party and certainly none that he was a Republican. He held some conservative religious views due to being a JW, but again, not a Republican.TPFKA@W wrote:and he was a REPUBLICAN.

I found several places that listed him as a republican. So... And he was Seventh Day Adventist prior to that. He also stank of homophobe. Often.
Re: Prince is Dead?
Yes, a lot of memes and Internet stories are being generated attributing him with Republican views but they're just disgusting politicos trying to capitalize on his fame in an election year. JWs eschew voting entirely and Seventh Day Adventists generally eschew party affiliation so again, I don't think there is any reputable source that would establish he was a Republican.
Never heard anything to suggest he was homophobic, but considering he was religious conservative, it's not impossible.

It was really in plain sight- against gay marriage, the usual mantra for his religious cult.Never heard anything to suggest he was homophobic, but considering he was religious conservative, it's not impossible.
In fact here is a gay discussion on it from Datalounge. Loves me some gay bitchery. https://www.datalounge.com/thread/16799 ... ated-gays-

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Re: Prince is Dead?
Garrison Keillor did a nice tribute to Prince on today's PHC. I can take him or leave him (a bit like Prince in that respect) and sometimes Keillor just mails it in, but this seemed to be from the heart, probably because Prince was from, and stayed in, Minneapolis. It's probably on line at NPR.org.
