It's an ill wind . . .

Post by MajGenl.Meade »

When Alice Winstone was driving to visit her sister, she passed a police officer who immediately flipped on the siren and pulled her over. He approached the vehicle prepared to reprimand her on not taking the proper safety precautions with the infant he had seen in the vehicle, but when he got to the window, he froze in his tracks. The baby inside the car with Alice wasn’t alive at all.

Although Alice has 5 flesh and blood children of her own, she can’t stop “adopting” plastic babies. She currently owns 50 and has plans to adopt even more. After being diagnosed with a blood disorder, Alice learned she couldn’t have any more biological children. These dolls are her way of coping.

She loves to spoil her fake babies with expensive toys and gifts. But after her run in with the law, she now has a sign on her car making it clear that any babies inside are not real.

Image

Alice has paid upwards of $2,000 for these dolls and she thinks they are worth every penny. She loves her weird collection and doesn’t care what anyone else has to say about it! There’s no denying that this is one weird hobby. But if it makes her happy, who are we to judge?

That right there is a piss-poor excuse for what nine out of ten people would call abnormal behavior (I was going to say 'deviant', but I remember what happened when I used the word 'perverted' before and I didn't want to start that discussion again).  That same line could be used to justify any number of actions, including consensual incest, recreational drug usage, excessive hoarding, self-mutilation, Nevada-style prostitution, and other lifestyle choices that run counter to the norms of society.  And if you don't know what I'm talking about, go ask your mother; I'm not about to draw you pictures.

It's An Ill Wind...

I'm thinking the "Dolly Mama" may have some underlying psychological problems.

Expensive dolls, piercings, and tats... why do I get the feeling she tell the landlord she can't make the monthly rent, too.

Wow Meade, you equate incest with recreational drug use?

You do realize that recreational drug use is not, in fact, outside the norms of behavior?

Yeah, I was a bit worried there for a moment! But in BB's defense, he referred not to "incest" but to "consensual incest".

He points out that the formula, "If it makes you happy, who are we to judge?" is a rationale that can be used to justify any number of unhealthy choices.

I'd say that incest, drug use, hoarding, self-mutilation etc. are often less-than-healthy choices.

That doesn't seem to be too outlandish a proposition but it does overlook the obvious mental health issues that in many cases negate the entire matter of "choice". Given the appearance of this woman, one wonders what is choice and what is psychological damage - that she has 5 children suggests she is not alone in the latter category.

No different then grown men wearing engineers caps any playing with model railroads. I don't know how anyone could get from eccentric and harmless to incest but whatever's on your mind, just post it anyway.

It is not "playing with trains", it is "a life-time hobby of fun and entertainment".
Sheesh!!

...She admitted that the hobby ruined her marriage. Her husband left, and of the dolls, she explained to Closer, “I prefer having them to having sex with [him]!”...Winstone, who does not work, said on YouTube that she took in foster children for a while, then cared for up to 3,000 kittens. Yet she couldn’t pinpoint the source of her, well, obsession...

Well, it's nice that they agree on something.

It costs less to provide social safety net to disabled people than it does to deal with them when they otherwise end up homeless, in jail, clogging up ER services, etc.

Truly, it does. The studies have shown so repeatedly over many years and in many countries.

I just don't get the mentality that we should throw the mentally ill to the wolves?

I think any rational taxpaying person can be excused for expressing disgust over seeing the "safety net" our tax dollars are providing purchasing piercings, tattoos and dolls. Particularly if we, taxpayers, have to deny ourselves little luxuries because of our tax burden.
